Green Bay Fight Fans Come out and Support “Big Time” Boxing
by
Julius Stecker - Ringside
11/12 - Local Green Bay Resident and Fight fan, Joe Schultz said it
best, "I
like to see fights like this come to Green Bay." Overall it is safe to
say
that bringing "Big Time" Boxing back to Green Bay was a rousing
success.
While the much anticipated Main Event between Vaughn Bean and Yanqui
Diaz
turned out to be a, "you hold me then I will hold you" type of fight,
with
Diaz winning a split decision. The overall card still overcame its
lackluster main event. The talk of the night from the 1,500 fight fans
in
attendence, was young 21 year old and Green Bay native, "King" Carlos
Molina
(4-1). And the "King" laid claim to his thrown.
Molina stepped to the plate and delivered a commanding 3rd TKO over
previously undefeated. Adam "Kid" Capo (3-1) in a spectacular
performance.
Molina set to pace early with a nice jab which kept Capo off balance
for
most of the night.
Capo, who seemed more suited for body building then prize fighting,
tried to
press the action at times, but Molina with his excellent footwork would
not
allow for Capo to get inside.
Round two was much of the same, with Molina going to the body more
which
would pay off in dividends in the following round. When Molina and Capo
came
out for round 3, you knew it would only be a matter of time before Capo
would be put away. And with Green Bay fight fans clamoring for a Molina
knockout, he came out like a showman and closed the show. It was a left
hook
to the liver that started it off, followed by a straight right, and
that was
about it for Capo.
The most impressive thing about Molina's performance was how complete
it
was. He used good footwork, followed up with a nice jab, and he also
went to
the body frequently and often.
Also you have to like how he keeps his hands high at all times. Overall
it
was a great technical performance from Mr. Molina. And this from a guy
with
only 6 amateur fights and 4 pro fights.
TalkingBoxing.com caught with Local Sports Radio Talk Show Host, T.C.
Martin
a former manager of Tony "The Tiger" Lopez, to get his take on the
action.
And he was delighted by what he saw.
"There are some good people boxing people in this town trying to
promote
some fights, this one we got the Resch Center involved in. We are
trying to
test the market, and the question is, is this a fight town? I think it
is a
fight town. Getting Top Rank involved is a big step forward of bring
big-time boxing back to Green Bay."
Martin who has been around boxing every since his days in Sacramento
and Las
Vegas, is excited but what he sees so far from Molina.
"The guy works real hard, he just needs some direction. He has only 4
pro
fights and six amateur fights. He just needs some seasoning, he has a
real
good trainer, and a lot of punching power. He could go far if he gets
the
right direction."
After last nights success, boxing will be back to this blue collar
football
city by the Bay. And it will stay back, better then ever.
