Salita Overcomes Slow Start, Decisions Delgado

by Robert Louis - Ringside
11/19 - Undefeated Jewish jr. welterweight sensation, Dmitriy “Star of David” Salita was the main attraction last night in the 7th installment of DiBella Entertainment's “Broadway Boxing”, at the Manhatttan Center on Thursday night.

Salita of Brooklyn, New York, 20-0 with 11KO, overcame a slow start and fell behind early as his tough as nails opponent Paul Delgado of Capo Verde, GA, 12-5-1 with 2KO, used a mix of hooks and rights to take an early lead on the TalkingBoxing.com scorecard.

Salita with the help of his 300+ Jewish supporters in attendence, staged a late rally and overcame a cut over his left eye to win a unanimous decision by scores of 78-74 (twice) and 77-75. TalkingBoxing.com had it a comfortable 78-74.

In undercard action, rugged Pole, Pavel Wolak, 4-0, slugged his way to a unanimous decision over Joseph Benjamin, 1-6-1 , in a 4 round tilt as his many fans cheered the jr. middleweight. Scores were 40-35 (twice) and 40-36.

Kevin Cruz of Brooklyn, New York, 3-0, dominated all 4 rounds on his way to a unanimous decision over Darrin Johnson, 3-5, in a 4 round contest.

Curtis Stevens of Brooklyn, New York, 3-0, earned “TALKINGBOXING.COM Fighter of the Night” award as he used a beautifully placed right uppercut, lefthook combination to dispose of very game but overmatched opponent in Ezzard Lowayne Cooper, 3-2, in the 2nd round of their scheduled 4 round fight.

“Irish” John Duddy, 6-0, stopped William Johnson, 1-2, with a perfectly placed double left hook to the body in the first round. This was Duddy's 6th knockout win in as many bouts.

Ehinomen “Hino” Ehikamenor of Queens, New York raised his record to 9-0 by slowly wearing down Mark Miller, 4-5-1 and flooring him with a right hand, left hook combination in the 4th round of thir scheduled 8 roundd fight for his 6th knockout win.

Finally, in a wrap of this top young prospect card, Jaiddon Coddrington of Queens, New York, 5-0, recorded his fifth knockout in as many fights as he conducted a “text book-left-hook-to-the-body clinic” at the expense of Anthony Osborne , 4-6-1. Unfortunately, for Osborne the “clinic” lasted all the way until midway into the 5th round when Jaiddon "closed the clinic” landing a left hook to the head that ended the scheduled 6 rounder.
