Greenburg Wins, Needs More Improvement; Condrington Impresses

by Robert Louis
1/31 - Unbeaten, Jewish heavyweight Roman Greenberg, 18-0, captured the Broadway spotlight this past Friday night, January 28th, when he scored his 13th knockout victory in a stoppage of Marcus Mcgee at 1:29 in a 4th round.

The knowledgeable boxing crowd was unimpressed by Greenberg’s performance to begin, which was displayed by booing throughout the short bout. The lack of punches and especially the wait between punches had over the first few rounds had fans jeering until he decided to let his hands go. Once thrown, Greenburg's punches were quite accurate and his shots did appear to carry quite a bit of pop.

Personally, I saw potential from Greenburg, but would suggest a trip back to the gym for a few months and work on this combinations and timing. Maybe this summer, Roman will be ready for a top 20 heavyweight, which would raise his game.

On the under card, Queens, NY, native Jaidon 'The Don' Condrington, remained perfect with a TKO stoppage of Glen Rayburn, 13-4-1, of Delaware, Ohio. Condrington, 7-0, was the TalkingBoxing fighter of the night, showing impressive speed and power, knocking Rayburn down with a counter left hook to the jaw in the first. Continuing to show flashes of brilliance, late in the 2nd Jaidon stopped his foe with some big shots for one of his best outings as a pro.

Cruiserweight Sam Elusory, 5-3, won a unanimous decision over Mark Miller over 6-rounds by scores of 57-54, 59-52 and 58-53. Elashry, who originally hails from Cairo, Egypt, gained momentum and showed marked improvement in his young pro career.

Staten Island's unbeaten super bantamweight Gary "Kid" Stark, Jr., 11-0, stopped Uvalde Livonia at 1:26 of the 5th round and U.S. Olympian and Winter Haven, Florida native Andre Berto, 2-0, fresh off a knockout victory in his pro debut, halted Edgar Galvan, 1-3-1, of Durango, Mexico with a series of left hooks in the first round.
