Williams Upsets 'A-Farce', Wins British Title
TUE December 13, ROGER GORDILLO - Former Mike Tyson conqueror Danny “The Brixton Bomber” Williams upset former Olympic Gold Medalist and previously undefeated heavyweight prospect Audley “A-Force” Harrison.

Harrison, who originally hails from England, once again proved true the old adage of, “you can never go back home again." After much criticism from fans, the English media and his own unhappiness about the path his career was taking, Harrison decided to pack his bags and make his way over to the center of the boxing world, the United States.

After a few successful fights under the Goosen-Tutor promotional banner, Harrison decided to take on what was viewed as big fight in England against world title challenger Danny Williams for the Vacant Commonwealth (British Empire) Heavyweight Title.

Harrison had the odds in his favor with Williams a sentimental 5 to 1 underdog.

As the fight started, Harrison cautiously boxed at a distance throwing his jab with little if any conviction, throwing his punches one at a time. Williams also failed to truly press the action as he would wait on Harrison and would charge forward only in spurts.

The bout continued with very little taking place as the Williams corner urged their fighter to attack and push the bill as they repeatedly told the 275-pound heavyweight that his opponent was terrified of being hit and was simply fighting scared, which was evident every time Williams landed flush.

In the later rounds, Williams began to press the fight more and continued to land the clearer more effective punches and would drop Harrison with a right hand late in the tenth. Harrison did not go quietly, as he staggered Williams in the 11th, but proved too little, too late as the judges scored the bout a split decision victory for Williams by scores of 116-113 twice and 114-113 for Harrison.

On the Undercard of the Williams – Harrison PPV

As Williams and Harrison fought for the Vacant Commonwealth (British Empire) Heavyweight Title that British heavyweight champion Matt Skelton vacated, Skelton would stop an out of shape John McDermott in the first round of their match and would later call out the winner of the Williams – Harrison fight in a post fight interview.

Former Olympic standout and up and coming Lightweight Amir Khan would stop Daniel Thorpe in the 2nd round after dropping Thorpe in each of the two rounds.

Hard punching Welterweight Ross Minter Claimed the vacant English Welterweight title by stopping Brett James in the fourth frame of a one sided affair. Minter who is the son of former Middleweight champion Allan Minter, who is famous for his fight with Marvin Hagler back in Sept. of 1980.

Kevin Mitchell becomes the newly crowned IBF Inter-Continental Super Featherweight Champion by capturing the vacant title by Stopping Mohammed Medjadji in the sixth round of their scheduled 12 round bout.
