2/21 - Unlike Manny Pacquiao whose brother has just been schooled by a former foe, Mexican icon Erik Morales has his world-ranked bantamweight brother Diego to gain inputs from as he embarks on the final few weeks for his mammoth March 19 showdown with the Filipino superstar.
Diego "Pelucho" Morales, the younger brother of the Mexican legend, who is himself ranked WBC no. 1 and WBA no. 3 bantamweight and former WBO superflyweight champ, yesterday advised his more illustrious brother to initiate the action and take the fight to the Filipino hero when they clash at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for their 12-round duel.
“En todo momento... Erik estarobligado a caminar hacia su lado derecho y proponer el combate," (Erik should move towards Pacquiao's right side, and press the action), the 25-year-old southpaw told Box-latino, adding that Pacquiao is only good when he is the one doing the attack, but doesn't know what to do when he is the one on the defensive.
“Pacquio sólo es una maquina de tirar piedras... y cuando lo atacan no sabe que hacer," (Pacquiao is like a machine that throws stones, but doesn't know what to do when he is attacked), explains the younger Morales to Box-latino.
For Morales, this is the key that has been lost on both Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez, two opponents who had been on the receiving ends of Pacquiao's vaunted left.
The younger Morales is currently staying at the Otomi Mountains assisting his brother prepare for the much-awaited Pacquiao showdown.
For the first time in ten years, the Mexican has been training without his usual retinue which used to include a doctor, nutritionist, cook and physical conditioning coach. This time, he has trimmed down his team to include only his father/manager Jose Morales, his brother Diego, and trainer Fernando Fernandez.
Serving as Morales' sparmates at the Otomi Mountains in preparation for Pacquiao are Alirio Rivero, Rodrigo Juarez, Fernando "Wary" Beltran, Junior, Julio Gamez and Lupe Rangel.
