Pacquiao's Business Partner Starts Rigid Scouting

2/24 - A close friend and business partner of reigning Ring Magazine featherweight king Manny Pacquiao has already started the ground work for what will be an ambitious plan to give Filipino fighters the chance to be known worldwide and the opportunity to reach their goals of becoming world boxing champions.
American lawyer Michael Koncz, who was accompanied by Cebu's respected sportsman Tony Aldeguer when he faced the Cebu media here at yesterday's SCOOP Forum at the Baseline Restaurant, indicated that he is now holding exploratory talks with some respected Filipino managers to be able to allow the fighters a chance to be known abroad.
"Manny and I had decided to form a company that will tap the vast talents to be found here in your country. Manny had told me that there are so many good boxers here who have not yet been given the chance internationally," Koncz told Cebu media.
The American lawyer also told mediamen that he had also held talks with North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Piņol as the latter authorized him to look for a world-title opportunity for WBC no. 8 flyweight Diosdado "Prince" Gabi. "Fortunately, we already have something in store for Gabi, although we have to announce that in due time. That may materialize sometime late April or May," Koncz revealed.
Aldeguer, for his part, expressed interest in tapping the help of Koncz especially in the area of finding opportunities for the boxers in the US.
"We are looking at doing it, but also, I don't want Michael to inherit the problems associated with managing a fighter," Aldeguer stressed, referring to the boxers' tendency to treat their managers like trouble-shooters, often expecting all their problems--financial or otherwise--to be solved by their managers.
Aldeguer further informed that he will allow Koncz to look for opportunities in the US for WBO Asia Pacific bantam champ Rey Bautista, the hottest boxing sensation in the country today.
