Kalamazoo Set for Midwest Professional Boxing Series
TUE October 18, BRIAN SKJOLD - With just over a week to go before their inaugural event, the Midwest Professional Boxing Series is gearing up for an exciting finish. On Oct. 22nd at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, MI, rising star Damian “Damo” Fuller, 24-4-1 (11 KO’s), will headline against Oklahoma’s own Jerry Cooper.

Detroit native, and IBF ranked boxer, Fuller was in great spirits at Thursday’s press conference, held at the beautiful Radisson Hotel, to formally announce the main event and to introduce the start of the Midwest Professional Boxing Series’ first season.

Fuller, who has been on the verge of a world title shot for over a year now, has had some major fights fall through recently. None has been heavier on his heart than a title shot that fell through against the late Leavander Johnson. Damian has expressed his sympathy for the Johnson family knowing full well that he could have been across the ring on that fateful night. Fuller says the quest for a world title fight starts now, in the memory of Leavander Johnson. A portion of BE/Side Productions’ profits from this event have also already been earmarked for the Leavander Fund.

The journeyman, Cooper 17-14-1 (9 KO’s), has been in with a few world class fighters in his career, but Damian is looking to dominate Cooper and predicts a 5th round KO. When asked about his preparation for this fight Fuller said he is in great shape and feels he is ready to go.

“When I found out he was a straight forward fighter, I knew I didn’t need to watch any film.”

The debut of the Midwest Professional Boxing Series will be promoted by BE/Side Productions’ President Bill Snyder and Gerald Evans of 1 World Productions. This fight starts the first in a series of 8 to 10 shows, throughout the Midwest over the next year.

The undercard will be as follows:

Ron Johnson 5-0 vs. Kevin Butts 8-6-1 (Super Middleweights 6 Rounds).

Harvey “Candy Man” Jolly 2-0-1 vs. Charles Judge 2-7 (Heavyweights 6 Rounds).

Rasool Shakoor vs. Ken Walton 1-2 (Super Featherweights 6 Rounds).

Demetrice King 8-9 vs. Corey Gregory 4-10 (Heavyweights 6 Rounds).

Also scheduled:

Frank “Spider Man” O’Neal 6-0-1 (Lightweight)

Mike “The Hammer” Jones 1-1 (Heavyweight)
