Fuller, Cooper make weight; Mayweather Sr. makes appearance at historic weigh-in
SAT October 22, BRIAN SKJOLD - A large crowd was on hand for the first ever weigh-in of the Midwest Professional Boxing Series held in the beautiful Radisson Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo, MI. Floyd Mayweather Sr. was in attendance mingling and signing autographs, and the excitement, that only comes with boxing, quickly built toward the main event fighters Damian Fuller and Jerry Cooper.

Fuller looked extremely confident while he patiently waited to step up to the scales, and he calmly chatted with anyone who wanted to talk. His opponent in the main event, the tough veteran Cooper, looked focused and on edge while he waited amongst the very pro Fuller crowd for his turn at the scales. It was obvious that Cooper looked and felt out of place in Fuller’s backyard. Eventually Mayweather Sr. would be introduced and promptly told all in attendance,

“If you don’t know already, I’m the greatest trainer of all time!”

Floyd Sr. then quickly segwayed into an Ali-esque rhyme that had the crowd ohhhing and ahhhing. When asked the inevitable question, “Who would win if Oscar de la Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight?” Mayweather Sr. just smiled his million dollar smile and said, “I Win!” Floyd later gave his thoughts on the main event.

“Damian should win. I looked at this guys name, Cooper. My son knocked him out. Fuller should win. He’s not as cagey and my son, but he’s good.”

Finally it was time for Damian Fuller and Jerry Cooper to take center stage and make weight. Both made the 135 lb. limit easily, and more importantly without any controversy.

The doors will open at 7:00pm tonight October 22, 2005 for BE/Side Productions Midwest Professional Boxing Series at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, MI. Tickets are priced at $75 VIP, $50 Ringside, $37.50 Reserved and $23 General Admission, and are available through Ticket Master or by calling the Wings Stadium Box Office at (269) 345-5101.
