Peter defeats Long, Scores knockout in First
SAT April 29 - Uncasville, CT - Samuel Peter of Nigeria strengthened his position in the heavyweight division with a first round knockout of Julius Long of Romulus, Michigan tonight in the Mohegan Sun Arena. Peter increased his record to 26-1 by scoring his 22nd career knockout at 2:35 of the opening stanza. "You have to be aggressive, that was the game plan," said Peter, who is promoted by Dino Duva.
If you want a knockout, you have to go after it, even if someone has a knife."
Peter was asked which heavyweight he would like to face and said: "Anyone, anyone, anyone. I want to be heavyweight champion."
Peter lost to present champion Wladimir Klitchko last year in a fight that he had Klitchko, who just beat Chris Byrd, down three times. "It wasn't my time," explained Peter. Now it's my time. I will destroy Klitchko."
In the co-feature, heavyweight Brian Minto, 24-1, bested Billy Zumbrun, 19-7-1, over 8-rounds. Score cards read 79-73, 79-72 and 78-74.
