Unacceptable
MON, October 23 BRIAN BLAKE -
There were a few things that the boxing fans in El Paso, TX didn’t count on. One of which was Juan Manuel Marquez’ opponent not being cleared to step into the United States for his bout, which led to the main event being called off.
Another thing they didn’t count on was Manuel Garnica getting blatantly robbed in his fight against Juan Lazcano.
When a fighter who was born in the city he is now fighting in gets a decision and the crowd roars in disagreement, you know something is wrong. Which is exactly what happened this past weekend.
Manuel Garnica got robbed. Plain and simple.
Could you imagine going to work and putting in the full amount of hours, then working overtime, and then get turned away with absolutely nothing?
I couldn’t.
But for some reason two of the three judges that scored this fight thought that this kind of thing was acceptable.
It isn’t. It’s disgraceful.
I don’t care where you’re from; if a man wins the fight then you should give him the decision. I don’t care if he’s not from your side of town, your part of the country or from a whole separate country altogether.
Garnica earned that victory.
I don’t know if Garnica decides to fight in Texas again (if he doesn’t ever do it, I won’t blame him), but the next time he does… they owe him one.
To the judges: I hope it was worth it.
Their hometown kid won.
Maybe we can sit down and score the rounds together to see what you saw in the fight to give it to Lazcano. I’ll tell you what I (as well as the rest of the El Paso crowd) saw in Garnica.
Personally, I don’t want to see this kind of thing happen again.
The least you can do is look Garnica in the eye and tell him he didn’t do enough to win that fight.
Personally, I don’t think you could do it.
Judges Jerry Wright and Mark Ortega, your scorecards were not only incorrect, but they were unacceptable.
Shame on the both of you.
