Trejo In Burner But Seguro Steals The Show
SAT March 4, JERRY CASAREZ, RINGSIDE - Friday night in Maywood, CA Top Rank Inc. in association with Ray Alcorta’s KO Productions put on a very entertaining card before a sold out crowd. The card that was televised by Telefutura’s weekly Solo Boxeo featured Fernando “Pillo” Trejo, 26-10-4 (17 KO), who defeated a very game Luis Arceo, 19-4-2(13 KO), by UD. Scores were 117-111, 116-112 and 115-112 all in favor of Trejo.

This bout was highly entertaining as both men traded shots at will round after round. The biggest difference was Trejo’s ability to avoid Arceo’s power shots and get off his own. After 12 hard rounds Trejo not only secured himself a victory but also won the previously vacant NABF 130 lbs title.

In the televised co feature of the night we would have a battle of young flyweights. Francisco Arce 20-3-1 (9ko) would take on local favorite Giovanni Segura 13-0-1(10ko). This was an opportunity for the younger Arce to step from under his famous brother’s shadow and prove that he too was a fighter to look out for.

This fight would have no dull moments as both fighters were quick to oblige each other and trade vicious hooks. Segura managed to use his southpaw style to confuse Arce who could not avoid right hooks to his body. These hooks from Segura would pay dividends as he would fire a borage in the last 30 seconds of the first and with a crushing straight left was able to floor Arce. The crowd which was in full support of Segura would roar as Arce struggled to get up. He would reach his feet at the count of nine and would soon find himself on unstable legs and unable to walk forward as requested by the referee.

The end would come at 2:59 of the first as the referee would call a halt. With the win Segura not only scored his biggest victory but also placed the flyweight division on notice.
