Weighty Issue: Campbell Comes In Heavy
FRI February 13, BRIAN BLAKE - Lightweight champion Nate ‘Galaxxy Warrior’ Campbell weight in 3 pounds over the weight limit for his bout tomorrow night with challenger Ali ‘Rush Hour’ Funeka. Campbell now has two hours to get down to the 135 lb. limit. Funeka weighed in at 133.5 lbs., a pound and a half under the limit. If the weight is not lost and the fight goes on anyway Campbell will automatically forfeit the titles and could be taken by Funeka provided he wins the bout. (Campbell’s last fight with Joan Guzman was cancelled due to Guzman not being able to make weight.)
For the WBC interim junior middleweight title fight the champ Sergio Martinez tipped the scales at 153 and a quarter lbs., while former champion Kermit Cintron came in a quarter pound over the limit. 15 minutes later Cintron would come back to weigh in right at the jr. middleweight limit.
In the other co-main event for tomorrow’s event both fighters weighed in under the jr. middleweight limit with hard hitting Alfredo ‘Perro’ Angulo at 153 and a half pounds and last minute sub Cosme ‘Chino’ Rivera at 151 and a half pounds.
