Will Sugar Shane Fight the Wright
Fight?
Mosley is in a must-win fight tonight on HBO

11/20 - Sugar Shane Mosley is a desperate man. He is 1-3 with 1 no-contest in his last five fights. Even his one victory was a gift decision against Oscar De La Hoya. Mosley knows this Saturday night is a must-win fight, if he is to continue as a big-time prize fighter.
Standing in his way is the man who took his Ring Magazine junior
middleweight championship eight months ago, Winky Wright. Wright
dominated
Mosley, winning almost every round in taking a commanding unanimous
decision. The new champion is looking for another clear-cut win to
move his
name value from boxing champion to boxing star.
Sugar Shane, 39-3 (35 KO's), has cleaned house as he attempts to
rebuild
his reputation as one of the sport's superstars. His recent troubling
performances led Mosley to fire his father, Jack Mosley, who served as
his
trainer since Shane first laced up the gloves. In his place will be
Joe
Goossen, who has helped heighten the career of lightweight Diego
Corrales.
Goosen has a reputation of helping fighters who suffer from a shattered
confidence, but Sugar Shane might be his biggest project.
If Mosley is to win the rematch, he will have to brawl the slick
southpaw.
Wright, 47-3 (25 KO's), will want to outbox Mosley as he did in the
first
fight, using his superior footwork. Mosley has been hesitant to brawl
since
his first loss to Vernon Forrest, but he must to overcome the fear of
being
knocked down again, if he is to successfully defeat the champ.
PREDICTION: Their first fight in March was one of my two false
predictions
of 2004. I have learned my lesson. Winky Wright is too slick for
anyone in
the 154 pound weight class. Add Sugar Shane to the list of fallen
superstars of 2004. He will join De La Hoya, Roy Jones, Evander
Holyfield,
and Mike Tyson, as one generation drifts away and the next era comes
storming in. Wright by late round stoppage.
Jason's prediction record in 2004: 9-2.
The Winky Wright-Shane Mosley fight will take place Saturday night at
the
Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. It can be seen on HBO's World
Championship Boxing at 9:45 pm.
