Upcoming Schedule Excites Boxing Fans
NEWSFLASH - Everybody is well aware of the upcoming
Oscar De La Hoya-Manny
“Pac-Man” Pacquiao fight.
Even those people who just watch the major three sports know about the
bout set for December 6, 2008. They do not realize that there are plenty
of other big fights coming up as well.
Ricky Hatton, the boxer many thought would be in the ring with De La Hoya, is fighting Paulie Malignaggi at the MGM Grand a couple of weeks before the De La Hoya fight for the IBF Light Welterweight title. The fight pits an English boxing superstar against a New Yorker who has made an impact on the sport with his skill and his moxie. The tickets to the Ricky Hatton-Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi fight for November 22 will get boxing fans riled up for the big fight in Decemeber.
The battle of the lightweights continues to impress with a fight between “Sugar” Shane Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga. The legendary light weight fighters will take the ring on October 11 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Though the Mosley-Mayorga fight will not be on pay-per-view, it will be on shown on HBO.
The fight was originally supposed to be on pay-per-view, but was bumped thanks to an agreement for the Pavlik-Hopkins fight on October 18. That fight pits Kelly Pavlik against Bernard Hopkins. Though ringside tickets for the match will not be for a title, they will feature two of the top competitors and title holders. Pavlik is the current The Ring, WBC, and WBO middleweight champion and Hopkins is the former undisputed Middleweight champion. The fight will be fought at 170, just five pounds below the Light Heavyweight limit.
For those boxing fans craving a heavy weight match up, the Vitali Klitschko continues his return to the top after retiring with a heavy weight title fight with Samuel Peter. The event has all kinds of intrigue. Peter beat Klitschko’s brother for the titles and has beaten Vitali before with help from Lennox Lewis, who beat Vitali previously. The fight is seen as Vitali’s right since he retired the WBC Champion in 2005.
The remaining boxing season for 2008 has plenty of huge fights that boxing fans and just general sports fans can enjoy. Hopefully the public is ready to enjoy boxing again after seeing the great fights between the nations at the Olympics this summer.
