O'Neil Bell, NABF and USBA Champion
Julius Stecker: How is training going O' Neil?
O'Neil Bell: So far so good, I am winding down right now.
Julius Stecker: What do you know about your next opponent Derrick Harmon?
O'Neil Bell: Derrick Harmon brings a lot of experience. I really have not been studying him too much. But I have been sparring with a lot of southpaws so I am accustomed to his fighting style. I have also seen his fight tape from his fight with Dariuz Michalczwski.
Julius Stecker: Do you think a win against a world class fighter like Harmon will be boast for your career?
O'Neil Bell: Yes, Derrick Harmon has world class experience, he has been in with guys Roy Jones Jr., Montell Griffin, and (Dariuz) Michalczwski. So yes a win will do a lot.
Julius Stecker: A lot has been made between a well publicized feud between Wayne Braitwaite and yourself, what is your take on it?
O'Neil Bell: For somebody to call me a little bitch, that ain't right. This s*** is a real life situation, fighting in the ring is real life. He can talk all the so called talk he wants. But that cat doesn't understand what I bring to the table. I will leave it at that.
Julius Stecker: That said, would you like to fight him, or maybe even a Jirov or Toney?
O'Neil Bell: You know I would love to fight James Toney. I would fight him for bragging rights. He is on the way down and I am on the way up, that is the bottom line. I would fight him in split second if that fight was offered.
Julius Stecker: Everybody knows that O'Neil Bell brings power in either hand to the table, but what do you feel is your most underrated asset as a fighter?
O'Neil Bell: I bring a great knowledge of the fight game, I believe that preparation is key, and that fighting is 90% mental and 10% physical. I am always reading my opponents and that is attributed to my great preparation. Whether it be watching fight tape or spending more time in the gym.
Julius Stecker: You are a cruiseweight, so how do you feel about the increase of the weight limit by some of the sanctioning bodies to 200 pounds?
O'Neil Bell: I think I will benefit from it, I am always sparring with guys who are 230-240 pounds and I do more then hold my own with them. So I think the move to 200 would only be beneficial.
Julius Stecker: That said, would you be looking fight a smaller heavyweight, maybe some one like a Chris Byrd of a Roy Jones Jr in the future?
O'Neil Bell: For sure a Chris Byrd or a Roy Jones Jr would be great, look at Byrd he fights at like 210-212. I would only have to put on like 5 or 10 pounds and I would be right there. Those guys will look at a fight with me as being too risky, so I plan and knocking Wayne Braitwaite's ass out and prove to the critics O'Neil Bell is for real.
Julius Stecker: What can we expect from you in the next fight and in the future?
O'Neil Bell: Explosion, Explosion, and total dominance.
TalkingBoxing would like to thank O'Neil Bell for taking time out his busy schedule and training for doing this interview. Best of luck on December 19th as you make your run for a world title!.
