Interview with Angel Hernandez

"I fight with my heart everytime out"

by Julius Stecker
Chicago native and jr. middleweight contender Angel Hernandez (26-4, 16 KO's) is a true warrior in every sense of the word. When he fights he electrifies crowds with his agressive style and impressives fight fans with his uncanny toughness. He embodies what the city of Chicago is all about. Angel is blue collar, hard working, tough as nails, and fun to watch. On November 8th, he is getting the chance of a lifetime to take on IBF jr. middleweight champ, Ronald "Winky" Wright, (interview) on the undercard of Roy Jones Jr-Antonio Tarver. Winky is considered to be one of the top 10 to 20 fighters in the world pound for pound. While some may think Angel is in over his head in this fight, Angel and his supporters are not among them. Talkingboxing.com got a chance to talk to Angel before the biggest fight of life.

Interview with Angel Hernandez

Julius Stecker: How is training going?

Angel Hernandez: I am doing pretty well we are getting ready for a big fight...this is my first chance, my first big chance.

Julius Stecker: Have you been doing anything in particular to get ready for this fight?

Angel Hernandez: Sparring a lot, and I am working on walking down southPaw fighter.

Julius Stecker: Can you make any comparsions between fighting Kassim Ouma, and fighting Winky Wright?

Angel Hernandez: No, I thought I won that fight...Ouma is not Winky Wright, I don't think he hit hard enough, I think my fights against Candelo will help me out more then that one did.

Julius Stecker: What is your key to victory?

Angel Hernandez: The key is to put a lot of heart into the fight...... I fight with my heart everytime out.

Julius Stecker: So you are saying you need to put a lot of pressure on him?

Angel Hernandez: A lot of pressure, he is going to have to knock me down or out to keep me off him.

Julius Stecker: Would winning the title mean a lot to you?

Angel Hernandez: Not winning the title, winning the fight would mean a lot, it would make me happy.

Julius Stecker: If you win the fight would you be looking for a unification match against Shane Mosley?

Angel Hernandez: If I win the fight, I would like to do a thousand things, but I have to win this fight first.

Julius Stecker: What can we expect from Angel Hernandez on November 8th?

Angel Hernandez: You can expect not much difference from what I always give which is fighting with my heart..... I will give my best.

TalkingBoxing would like to thank Angel Hernandez for taking the time out of his busy day to talk with us. We wish him the best of luck against Winky Wright on November 8th.
