Interview with Chicago based promoter, Bobby Hitz

by >Julius Stecker
For over a decade, Bobby Hitz' fight cards have entertained Chicago fans with an average of 10 cards per year, while single-handedly resurrecting the fight game in this city. With a strong slate of local and national talent, coupled with Promoter Bobby Hitz' knack for gaining publicity and media attention, the spotlight is once again shining on Chicago's professional boxing scene. TalkingBoxing's Julius Stecker caught up with Bobby Hitz to discuss his upcoming show on July 10th.

      Bobby Hitz

Julius Stecker: Tell me about the upcoming July 10th Boxeo De Oro Card in Chicago.

Bobby Hitz: It is going to be a great night for boxing, we put together a great card for that evening. We did in great job in March, but this time we are trying to outdo ourselves with this card on July 10th

Julius Stecker: Bobby, I see that that you have Angel Hernandez on the card, do you think a spectacular showing here will be spring board for a fight with Winky Wright or Fernando Vargas?

Bobby Hitz: Actually, We tried to get a fight with Vargas already, but Vargas's people felt Angel was way too tough for him, they wanted a softie, Angel is a top notch Junior Middleweight, he puts on great fights, in his recent fight with Kassim Ouma, a fight Angel should have gotten decision, he showed what kind of fighter he was.

Julius Stecker: I recently read that O'Neil Bell wants a shot at James Toney, but since James Toney looks to be fighting Evander Holyfield, which direction do you look now.

Bobby Hitz: Well Toney may vacant the title so we would like to fight for the title, but basically we are willing to take on any cruiserweight in the world, there isn't a cruiserweight in the world that I feel that O'Neil Bell can't beat.

Julius Stecker: You are a former fighter, how is the transition from fighting to promoting?

Bobby Hitz: Fighting was easier, in promoting you have to deal with the media, interviews, and a lot of other things, but being a fighter made it easier though, because I know what it is like to be a fighter, I remember the roadwork, and I know what these guys are going through on day in and day out basis.

Julius Stecker: What are the qualities you look for in a fighter before you sign them?

Bobby Hitz: I look for guy with great work ethic, integrity, good morale character, and a guy whose word is his bond. I have guys who are willing to give there best every time out.

Julius Stecker: What do your fight cards best exemplify about the sport of boxing?

Bobby Hitz: All my fights cards are all competitive, all the way from the 4 rounders to the fights with champions and contenders. I try to make my fight cards the best they can possibly be.

Julius Stecker: Being from the Chicago what does it mean to you to bring excellent boxing to the windy city?

Bobby Hitz: Well i have been number one in this area for over 10 years now and it means a lot to mean. You may have some guys who attempt to take ideas from me, but I am consistently putting on shows fights fans want to see.

We would like to thank Bobby Hitz for taking the time to talk to with TalkingBoxing.com. Also, don't miss TalkingBoxing's ringside coverage of Boxeo De Oro on July 10th.
