Interview with Richie "The Mountain" LaMontagne

"I am totally ready"

by Julius Stecker
Coming off a big win over Ernest Mateen on May 2nd on ESPN2 (5th round TKO), Richie "The Mountain" LaMontagne (28-4-1) looks to move up the WBC rankings with a win over Dale Brown on August 1st at the Hampton Beach Casino. His opponent has only has three losses in his career with two coming at the hands of current champs Jean-Marc Mormeck (WBA) and Wayne Braithwaite (WBC) and the other loss to former IBF champ, Vissilly Jirov. This will be a stearn test for "The Mountain", but he is "pushing up to the next level" and this is a great fight to hopefully propel him into a rematch with Jirov or a world title shot. Talkingboxing.com caught up with "The Mountain", here is what he had to say.

      Richie "The Mountain" LaMontagne

Julius Stecker: How is training going right now?

Richie LaMontagne: Training is going good right now

Julius Stecker: What do you know about your upcoming opponent Dale Brown?

Richie LaMontagne: Not much, I am just sparring right now staying ready, and I am still waiting for tape on him.

Julius Stecker: You have been on a role as of late, and last years victory over Michael Bennett was spectacular, but do you think a win here will propel you into a title shot?

Richie LaMontagne: That is why I fight, pushing up to the next level, pushing up in rank, Brown is a former NABF champion, in the past I was ready, I was always in shape, but like against Jirov I was not ready mentally, now I am totally ready.

Julius Stecker: Who would you like to fight next?

Richie LaMontagne: A Jirov rematch would be awesome, it is a big money fight, me fighting him is a big money fight, I would definitely want that fight

Julius Stecker: Getting away from boxing a little Richie, tell us a little about you KO Foundation?

Richie LaMontagne: It is to help fight Autism, and it is around 5 years old right now, we also have charity golf tournament that will be taking place on August 11th and that has been going on for 15 years. My wife and I are really involved in the fight against Autism, she had young cousin diagnosed with autism....we have with worked with, San Diego Charger quarterback, Doug Flutie and we all continue to fight autism. Also we are involved with helping homeless children, and we organize toy drives.

Julius Stecker: When your boxing career is over do you plan on going back to acting and modeling?

Richie LaMontagne: I never really left, but definitely, right now I am focused 100% on boxing, but in between fights I will still go to New York and model for Versaci, and Calvin Klein, but I am not a pretty boy, I just have the look they are looking for.

Julius Stecker: What can we expect from you in the next year our two?

Richie LaMontagne: A lot of action, my promoter likes to keep us active, recently I stopped Ernest Mateen in the 5th round and that was good victory, but I would even like stay busier, I don't like fighting once every six months. I would also like a big money fight within the next year or two.

Julius Stecker: What do you have to say to your fans before the your next fight?

Richie LaMontagne: I love your support, I need you behind me, you guys are the ones who pay the bill and you are very important to me.

TalkingBoxing.com would like to thank "The Mountain" for taking time out of his busy schedule to talk with us and we will be rooting for a big win on August 1st.
