Interview with PETER MANFREDO JR.
"I am going to win a world title"

by Julius Stecker
Things are lining up nicely for 23-year old Peter Manfredo Jr.. Manfredo sports a 19-0 record and is a recent signee of CES Boxing. "It means a lot to my career right now," Manfredo said about the signing, "nothing was going my way recently, but Jimmy Burchfield came up with the best offer and I took it." Both Manfredo and Birchfield wasted little time in finding an opponent, as former Olympian Dante Craig will take on Manfredo at Foxwoods Casino in January. Manfredo calls it a "make or break fight." TalkingBoxing caught up with Peter for an interview.

Jr. Middleweight PETER MANFREDO JR.

Julius Stecker: How is traing going right now?

Peter Manfredo Jr.: Training is going good really, really well

Julius Stecker: When is your next fight and who are you going to fight?

Peter Manfredo Jr.: It's January 23rd at the Foxwoods Casino (in Connecticut), against former Olympian Dante Craig.

Julius Stecker: Tell us about your signing with CES Promotions?

Peter Manfredo Jr.: It means a lot to my career right now, nothing was going my way recently, but Jimmy Burchfield came up with the best offer and I took it.

Julius Stecker: You are relatively young, 23 years old, what are your plans for the future, are you going to stay at 154 or are you looking to move up sooner rather then later?

Peter Manfredo Jr.: I am going to stay at 154, and I am going to win a world title. There are a lot of fighters out there, but I am a New England fighter, I am tough....We just fight.

Julius Stecker: What are your best assets as a fighter?

Peter Manfredo Jr.: I have a good chin, a lot of heart, but I can can do everything, I can box and I can bang. I have been in camp with Fernando Vargas and Shane Mosley, so I know what the best have to offer. I would not say I have one great asset but I am good all around fighter who can just fight.

Julius Stecker: Who did you look up to as a fighter in your youth and right now?

Peter Manfredo Jr.: Nobody right now, but when I was young, Vinny Paz. I used to watch him train when I was young. You have to remember I have been in this game since I was seven, and when I young I used to imitate Vinny. Everybody says that Vinny was the only world champion from the area, but the boxing games is so hard, it is not like basketball or football. You have to hit everytime, you have to win everytime out, there is no room for error.

Julius Stecker: In closing, why should boxing fans check your upcoming fight out?

Peter Manfredo Jr.: This is a fight everybody has got to watch, it is a make or break fight. I have been training very hard. You have me with my 19-0 record fighting a former Olympian, so it is a must see.

TalkingBoxing would like to thank Peter Manfredo Jr. for taking time out of his busy training schedule to talk with us. We wish him the best of luck against Dante Craig!
