Interview with "SUGAR" SHANE MOSLEY
"my goal is to get in the Hall of fame and to be known as one of the great "Sugars"

by Julius Stecker
First it was world championships at lightweight and welterweight, now one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing will try to take out Oscar De la Hoya, this time for the junior middleweight world championship. "Sugar" Shane Mosley (38-2) will always be remembered for taking out De la Hoya on June 17th, 2000, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles when he clearly outboxed his cross-town rival to win the welterweight title. However, his last three fights haven't gone his way, losing two fights to Vernon Forrest and getting a NC for his brief efforts with Raul Marquez. Shane is "focused and in great shape" for his upcoming fight." TalkingBoxing's Julius Stecker caught up with this all-time great.

      Interview with "Sugar" Shane Mosely

Julius Stecker: How is training going right now Shane?

Shane Mosley: Training is going very good. I am relaxed and focused and in great shape.

Julius Stecker: You have beaten De La Hoya before so do you feel you have the mental edge against him?

Shane Mosley: I think if it came down to it I do have the edge but, Oscar is a very confident fighter as am I, so I don't know if that would effect him.

Julius Stecker: What would another victory vs De La Hoya mean to you?

Shane Mosley: It would mean alot because of all the negativity I have endured since fighting Forrest. I know what I am and I don't have to prove anything to myself but the writers and all the people who doubted Sugar Shane will suddenly feel very stupid. Which gives me gratification.

Julius Stecker: You have moved up all the way up in weight, from Lightweight to Junior Middleweight, how do you adjust your body to accommadate this change?

Shane Mosley: As you get older your weight starts to settle more and I have just kept in great shape and turned fat into muscle.

Julius Stecker: You have accomplished almost all there is to accomplish as a fighter, what would be a great way to end your career?

Shane Mosley: My goal is to get in the Hall of fame and to be known as one of the great "Sugars". That would be a perfect ending. After I retire I will go into training people and If I am lucky one of my sons will follow in my footsteps.

Julius Stecker: Tell us about your community work work in the Pomona area Shane.

Shane Mosley: I do alot of community work all over. Last easter, My wife and I visited the childrens hospital and gave out candy and gloves and tickets to my fight. My sister also runs a daycare for low income families so I contribute alot to that. My wife also is starting her own non-profit organization. It will help children and low income families with different needs.

Julius Stecker: In closing Shane, what do you have to say to your fans before you go to battle with De La Hoya?

Shane Mosley: In closing I want to Thank all my fans who have stood by me when everyone jumped off the band wagon. Your support has made defeat much easier to handle. Because of you I am able to get back in the ring as confident as ever. All your letters and kind words were much appreciated. Thank you and watch the return of my winning streak on Sept. 13, 2003. It will be a REPEAT. Thank you and God bless. Sugar Shane.

TalkingBoxing.com would like to thank "Sugar" for taking time out of his busy schedule to talk with us about his upcoming fight for the WBA/WBC junior middleweight titles (September 13th, 2003) and we will be rooting for another big win in his already hall of fame career.
