"Sucra" Ray Oliveira
Julius Stecker: First things first how is training going right now, for your upcoming fight Ray?
Ray Oliveira: It is going good I have working the bags, watching tapes, overall it has been going very well
Julius Stecker: Tell us about your upcoming opponent Byron Mackie, What challenges does he present to you?
Ray Oliveira: Well he is a good fighter, and he is a middleweight so that will be challenging.
Julius Stecker: What weight do you plan on coming in at?
Ray Oliveira: 150, I feel comfortable at that weight.
Julius Stecker: If you win impressively against Mackie, who do you want to fight next?
Ray Oliveira: I haven't really thought about it, my focus is squarely on Mackie, it really doesn't matter to me, but to be honest I haven't thought past Mackie.
Julius Stecker: Being from Massachusetts, the same state as Micky Ward, why do you think a fight never came about between you two?
Ray Oliveira: It had nothing to do with Micky Ward or myself. Micky Ward is a great guy who I respect him very much, but the reason we couldn't get the fight done was because of promoters and the business side of the sport
Julius Stecker: Have you ever thought about match-up between you and Arturo Gatti?
Ray Oliveira: If he moves up, there is no way I am going back down to 140, no way can I make that weight anymore, but if he moves up I would like to fight him
Julius Stecker: Ray you have given fight fans great action fights through the years, but what was your best moment as a fighter
Ray Oliveira: The Tracey Spann fight in 93, I came in the fight a little unsure of myself, Spann was a highly rated fighter, and I fought a great fight, that is the performance I was most proud of.
Julius Stecker: You have been in the ring with some of the best fighters around your weight class over the past decade, but who was your toughest opponent?
Ray Oliveira: The Russian, Sergei Artemiev, he hit me with one punch that made me shiver, I still remember that punch
Julius Stecker: How would you like to close out your career?
Ray Oliveira: With a world title fight, or a big money fight, I would really like to have a big money fight.
Julius Stecker: What do you see you see yourself doing when your fight career is over?
Ray Oliveira: I will being training fighters, and possibly maybe I get into to promoting, I would enjoy that.
I, along with TalkingBoxing would like to take the time to wish Ray the best of luck in his upcoming fight, and also thank him for taking the time
out of his busy schedule for an interview with us.
