"I am sure he (Winky Wright) will know me before it is all said and done"
|
WBO 154-lb Champion, Daniel Santos
Talkingboxing: Pupi, how are you doing?
Pupi: All is well, we are here with Daniel, getting ready for our fight with Raul Marquez.
Talkingboxing: When is the fight going down?
Pupi: January 24, on the under card of the Mike Tyson fight in Kentucky. Daniel signed a three fight contract with Straight Out Promotions for 2004. His first fight is against Marquez, then a mandatory against Wayne Alexander. After that, maybe in September, against De La Hoya, Mosley, or Wright, who knows?
Talkingboxing: Will that fight be on television, if the Tyson fight does not fly?
Pupi: The fight will be on Showtime and is happening, regardless of the situation with Tyson. Let me put the Champ on for you.
Talkingboxing: How you doing Daniel?
Daniel Santos: Feeling well, feeling fine.
Talkingboxing: How is training camp going for the Marquez fight?
Daniel Santos: I am basically been in camp three weeks, doing some weights and fundamental things, so as the really tough training comes about, I will be ready.
Talkingboxing: Are you doing anything different in preparing for Marquez?
Daniel Santos: I am preparing like all fights, but maybe with a little more motivation since I am fighting Raul Marquez and want a good showing.
Talkingboxing: How do you feel signing on with Straight Out Boxing?
Daniel Santos: Great, I had the opportunity to talk to them and they had some good plans for me. This is really motivating me to work much harder.
Talkingboxing: Out of De La Hoya, Mosley, and Wright, who would you like to fight the most?
Daniel Santos: Shane Mosley, he is the champion with two titles. I would like to fight De La Hoya, or even Winky.
Talkingboxing: One of the other writers for our web site had a chance to speak with Wright, who you were trying to get a fight with you. Basically, Wright said he didn't know you and never negotiated with you, would you like to respond to that?
Daniel Santos: If that is what he says, fine. But, he knows what I am. I am sure he will know who Daniel Santos is before it is all said and done.
TalkingBoxing would like to thank Daniel Santos and Alejandro "Pupi" De La Torre for taking the time out of his busy schedule to talk with us. We wish you the best of luck in your Showtime fight with Raul Marquez.
