Interview with LANCE WHITAKER

Pat Goosen: "Lance Whitaker will be the Heavyweight Champion of World soon"

by Julius Stecker
With back to back KO victories, Lance "Mount" Whitaker (26-2-1) is primed and ready to test the elite heavyweights once again. With 22 KO's in his 26 wins, his punch alone gets opponents respect and could make waves in the divison. Whitaker was thought of in such high esteem, that he recently help prepare Vitali Klitschko for his fight with WBC champion Lenox Lewis in June. Whitakers' manager, Pat Goosen, said "Lance fared better then Lennox did." TalkingBoxing.com's Julius Stecker caught up with Lance to see how things are going.

      Lance Whitaker

Julius Stecker: How is every thing going right now Lance?

Lance Whitaker: Everything is going good

Julius Stecker: What are you planning for your next fight?

Lance Whitaker: I think I will be fighting in November some time, but I don't know who against

Julius Stecker: Your last two fights have been impressive KO wins do you attribute that to being back with the Goosen's

Lance Whitaker: Yeah, I am real motivated right now, me and Pat have a great relationship and everything goes good when we are together

Julius Stecker: A lot of people compare your fighting style to George Foreman's, would you agree with that assessment?

Lance Whitaker: Yeah, a little, we are both big and strong and we both have good jabs

Julius Stecker: After Lennox Lewis, the Heavyweight division is wide open, where do you feel you fit in?

Lance Whitaker: I fit in there right at the top, everything is pretty wide open so I feel I fit right up there

Julius Stecker: Would you like a rematch against Jameel McCline?

Lance Whitaker: Yeah, but why fight him again, nobody wants to see that fight and there is really no money in that fight.

Julius Stecker: Would you like to Mike Tyson?

Lance Whitaker: Sure, I would really like to fight Mike Tyson

Julius Stecker: Who were favorite fighters growing up?

Lance Whitaker: George Foreman, Sugar Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali, and a young Mike Tyson, but mostly George Foreman, in fact I just recently watched an old Sanford and Son and it had George from about 25 years ago, it had me trippin hard, to see George now with the grill in all, and how he was back, then it had me trippin (laughing)

Julius Stecker: That is hilarious, but moving on from boxing a little what do do in your spare time, and are you involved in any community work?

Lance Whitaker: In the community I help with a group home and I have been doing that for about 6 years now, as far as hobbies I work out and do stuff like that.

Julius Stecker: I talked to Pat Goosen earlier today and he told me you, and I will quote him, "Lance Whitaker will be the Heavyweight Champion of the World" Do you agree with his assessment.

Lance Whitaker: Next year definitely, look out for "Mount" Whitaker

Julius Stecker: No more "Goofi"

Lance Whitaker: No back to Mount Whitaker

Julius Stecker: What do you have to say to fight fans about this upcoming year?

Lance Whitaker: To watch out for Mount Whitaker

TalkingBoxing.com would like to thank Lance Whitaker for taking time out of his busy schedule to talk with us and we will be rooting for him as he moves up the heavyweight rankings.
