TalkingBoxing.com caught up with the intense top rated Middleweight contender while he was in deep preparation for his upcoming fight June 5th against Bernard Hopkins as part of a double-header PPV card that also features Oscar De La Hoya in the other main event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Over the past 5 years since his devastating loss to Hopkins, he has whipped numerous mid-level middleweight contenders with relative ease. (Some guys of note that he defeated would be Tito Mendoza, Dwain Williams and Marlon Hayes) Allen is hoping to ride this momentum into his battle with Hopkins.
According to Allen, he cited promotional problems as part of the reason for his previous short falls early in his career. Now he feels that he and his trainer Byron Oglesby have an unbeatable team. "I have had one of the most mismanaged careers in boxing history, which led to some inconsistency. Right now I feel I am the most lethal middleweight in world. And now I have consistency with me and Byron Olgesby, and think I will soon be back at the top," said Allen.
Allen believes that his new sense of focus that has carried him to a 13-0 record since late 1999 will soon be pushed to 14-0. He is looking to shock the world, but to him it would not be shocking the world. It would be doing what he expected. He closed with this, "I will be tenacious, I will be lethal, and I will come out victorious. I am on a suicide mission, so I am going to bring it to him. That is all he knows and respects, so that is what I am going to do!"
