Former British Champion: "Expect a big upset, and a great fight"

by Julius Stecker
Danny Williams, the Former British Heavyweight Champion, is looking to shock the world on July 30th at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky on Showtime PPV. With his record of 31-3, with 26 knockouts he is looking to add Mike Tyson to his resume as a victim. While many people are not giving him much of a chance, Williams is as confident as ever. With a win over Tyson, Williams wants a shot at a title. TalkingBoxing.com caught up with Williams for a quick interview to get his take on the upcoming Tyson fight.

Danny Williams: I am going to demonstrate, power, strength, and boxing skills in this fight.

Julius Stecker: Tell me a little about how this opportunity to fight Mike Tyson fell into your lap?

Danny Williams: I was planning on fighting back in England to win the British title again, that is when I got word of this massive opportunity to fight Mike Tyson that I could not pass up.

Julius Stecker: When you look at Mike Tyson, what kind of fighter do you see now?

Danny Williams: He is not the same fighter that he was back in the 1980's. I would say he is 40% of what he was, but he is still one of the best heavyweights in the world, and he is very dangerous.

Julius Stecker: Everybody talks about Tyson's power, but you have 26 Knockouts yourself, do you think that your power will be the difference?

Danny Williams: Oh yes I have a lot of power, but so does he. So we both have to be careful in this fight.

Julius Stecker: Do you plan on taking Tyson into the later rounds, seeing that he seems like a 3 round fighter now?

Danny Williams: I want to do that yes, but if you looked at the first Evander Holyfield fight, I will have to be able to trade with him at some point, to earn his respect.

Julius Stecker: I know you are not looking past this fight but if you win, where will you be looking next?

Danny Williams: I am looking at this fight first and nothing else, but if I win, I will be ready for everybody; Chris Byrd, Vitali Klitchsko, John Ruiz, because I think those guys aren't any better then Mike Tyson.

Julius Stecker: What if Lennox came out of retirement to fight you if you won?

Danny Williams: That would be a massive fight, I did not even think of that one.

Julius Stecker: What can your fans, and fight fans in general, expect from you July 30th against Tyson?

Danny Williams: Expect a big upset, and a great fight.
