Jermaine "Too Sweet" White, 6-0 with 3KO, is one of the most exciting young prospects out of the Chicago area. The young
lightweight fighting out of Merrillville, IN is looking to make a name for himself in 2005. "Too Sweet" is coming off a excellent win a few weeks
back over Brian Paul as part of an action packed
One
in a Million promotions fight card.
TalkingBoxing.com
caught up with the young prospect to get his views on
his future and much more.
JERMAINE "TOO SWEET" WHITE
Julius Stecker: Tell us about your last fight, how you feel it went?
Jermaine White: Well, I was set to fight Ceaser Vega but that
fight fell out it was something with his flight or
something. I was really looking forward to that fight
because of his team talking trash. But Octavius told
me to keep my head and focus on the inside of the
ring. So after all that I fought Brian Paul of
Columbus, Ohio.
I was nervous at first because I had
never heard of this guy or seen him fight. Not only
that he was a welterweight. But hey this is boxing and
you have to do what you have to do. I was pleased with
my performance but fighting a heavier guy showed me
something's I need to work on.
Julius Stecker: What are you looking to accomplish in 2005?
Jermaine White: Wow... 2004 was a great year for me just making
my pro debut and now being 6-0. So I hope Octaivus
and One In A Million keep me on the same pace to the
top like we did this year. I know they have an awesome
show coming up in January "SLUG FEST 2005" at the Star
Plaza. I would love to be on that show but, will see
what they have scheduled for me.
Julius Stecker: Looking at the Lightweight division, how would you
rate yourself as a prospect?
Jermaine White: [laughing] Julius. Man, I'm ready for what ever. Yeah
I am still a baby in this division but I won't back
down from anyone. I don't have to watch out for them
they have to watch out for me. And that's the truth. I
tell my trainers and Octavius all the time my motto is
"YOU BRING THEM I BEAT THEM".
Julius Stecker: What do you feel is your greatest attribute as a
fighter?
Jermaine White: My willingness to learn, speed and my ability to
think in the ring. No question
Julius Stecker: Being a young fighter, what fighters do you look up
to?
Jermaine White: Right off the top Sugar Ray Leonard, Marty
Jakubowski. My main man is lil' Floyd Mayweather. Of
course Muhammad Ali and Roy Jones Jr. Julius, I
wear Roy's shoes that's what makes me fast. But no
these are the greats that I watch coming up and wanted
to be like. Along with some other great fighters
DeLahoya,Hopkins,Taver, the list goes on. I just try
to take a little of all them to make one great me. [laughing]
Julius Stecker: Do you think you will be a champion of the world one
day and if so at what weight?
Jermaine White: Julius, The question is not do I think , The
question is when I become a world champion. I would
love to at 135 or 140. I'd like to follow in the foot
steps of some of the greats who held the belts at
those weights.
Julius Stecker: Tell us about your relationship with One in a Million
promotions?
Jermaine White: Aww man. It's like a dream come true. I don't
know where to start. Julius let me tell you. Octavius
James and ONE IN A MILLION INC. are the greatest. They
really have treated me good. Man I can call Octavius
any time day or and he is there for me no matter what.
I mean else can you ask from them. And I'm just not
saying that because I'm signed with ONE IN A MILLION
you can ask my other stable mates. Like Michael Walker
5-0, Johnny Novak 11-1, Marty Jakubowski 114-7, Jimmy
Holmes 10-0, they will all say the same about Octavius
and Team ONE IN A MILLION.
Julius Stecker: What can fight fans expect for Jermaine White in the
future?
Jermaine White: First off I want to thank you Julius for this
interview. The boxing world and fans can look for me.
With my trainers and ONE IN A MILLION behind me. I
will give it my all and thrill the fight fans every
time I step in the ring. But my ultimate goal is to
become a WORLD CHAMPION.
