Interview with JEFF LACY
Super-middle contender catches up with TalkingBoxing

by Julius Stecker
This Saturday on Showtime from The Leggett and Platt Athletic Center at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri, Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy will defend his WBC CA/NABA and USBA super-middleweight crowns when he meets IBF/WBA International titleholder Vitali Tsypko. Lacy, who makes his 9th appearance on Showtime, is amped for his upcoming bout. Lacy has plans of unifying the divison and a win gives him a shot at Syd Vanderpool for the vacant IBF crown. Lacy isn't getting ahead of himself as he understands it begins with Tsypko. "[I have to] win this fight...Right now we are in the postition we expected to be 4 years ago, which is fighting for a world title," said Lacy. Julius Stecker: How is training going?

Jeff Lacy: Training is going great, everything is going about as good as it is going to go.

Julius Stecker: What do you know about your next opponent Vitaly Tsypko?

Jeff Lacy: I know he is a southpaw, who is going to come to fight just like myself.

Julius Stecker: If you win this fight you will have the IBF Super Middleweight title fight with Syd Vanderpool next, what do you know about him?

Jeff Lacy: Honestly I really don't know too much about him. The only time I saw him fight was a few weeks back against Tito Mendoza in Tampa. So I really don't know that much about him.

Julius Stecker: Looking at this year, what are your plans?

Jeff Lacy: Win this fight...Right now we are in the postition we expected to be 4 years ago, which is fighting for a world title. So the plan is going to be win a world title then unfiy the division.

Julius Stecker: Looking at yourself as a fighter, you obviously have power, but what do you feel is your greatest asset besides your power?

Jeff Lacy: I think my greatest asset is my speed, a lot of guys look at me and don't realize how fast I am until they get me inside inside the ring.

Julius Stecker: What was your take on Tarver-Jones?

Jeff Lacy: It goes to show you anything can happen. In Jones's mind he may have been looking past Tarver, but with the way he fought, he made a big mistake. He gave Tarver a 50-50 chance to win, and look what happened.

Julius Stecker: Will we see you as a Light Heavyweight soon?

Jeff Lacy: Eventually yes, but right now I have no trouble making 168. I feel very comfortable making weight, but you will eventually see me blow up to light heavyweight.

Julius Stecker: What can we expect June 5th?

Jeff Lacy: You will see me determined, and focused. I plan on getting one step closer to a world title.

TalkingBoxing would like to say thanks to top contender Jeff Lacy. Thanks Jeff for taking time out of his hectic schedule to answer some questions for us. We wish you the best in your upcoming fight!
