"Sucra" Ray Oliveira Looking for His Well-Deserved Shot
Every so often, a guy who gives his blood, sweat, and his tears, ends up not getting what he deserves. "Sucra"
Ray Oliveira (46-9-2) is the embodiment of that assessment. Ray has been perhaps boxing's best fighter over the last 10 years, not to win a world title. He has come up short in his few chances, but he has not been given enough chances. Ray, who had said 2004 is his last year, is going back on that aAnd he is looking to finally place himself in position for a money fight. Ray is looking for an
impressive performance that will hopefully vault him into a big payday.
TalkingBoxing.com caught up with the venerable contender to get his
views on his career and much more.
Ray is known for his extraordinary volume punching. He gave fight fans
unforgettable performances against, Vince Philips, Zach Padilla, Ben
Tackie, and so much more. He is looking to take aim at the division's elite,
and one guy he would love to fight is follow Massachusetts resident, WBA
Champion Jose Antonio Rivera.
He states, "I have nothing but respect for Jose,
he is a very good fighter, but I know in my heart that I am a better fighter,
I just have not had the right opportunities come my way, so that is
definitely a fight that I would like to have."
People may forget that Ray Oliveira is the only guy to defeat WBA Jr.
Welterweight Champion, Vivian Harris. Harris is still in Ray's sites,
if
Vivian plans to venture north of 140, but he would like a shot at
another
highly touted younger fighter, WBO Interim Welterweight Champion,
Kermit
Cintron. He explains, "I would like to fight him. Cintron is a good
young
fighter, but he still has a lot of things to learn."
Ray is looking to make a statement this year, and as he explains, 2004
is
not his last year, only the year when he makes things happen. "There
will
be no more dates or deadlines in my career. I am going to fight the
best,
and I am definitely looking to fight these young guys. I am going to
show
my skill and I am going to look sharp."
