Brock: "I will be a World Chapion this year!"

by Garth Weaver
4/19 - Last week, I had a great discussion with IBF #14 ranked heavyweight contender Calvin Brock, 24-0, as he discussed his upcoming Saturday night showdown on ESPN pay-per-view with IBF #5 Jameel McCline, 31-4. Coming off an impressive, third round knock out victory over contender Clifford Etienne, the Charlotte, North Carolina native found himself with an enormous opportunity and is in complete focus for his biggest fight to date. A win against McCline leads to a potential title shot, a chance Calvin believes he is destined to.

"They're still looking for the real Champion, I'm the person that's going to come up and clear it all up," Brock said. "So when it's asked around the world who's Heavyweight Champion, they are gonna say it's me, Calvin Brock."

Deemed to have a potentially great future by many boxing pundits, Brock gave intense replies to the state of the heavyweights and also gave his picks for some upcoming title bouts. It is no wonder that they call Brock, "The Banking Boxer" because he was all business during this interview.

CALVIN BROCK

Garth Weaver: Calvin, I want to thank you for taking the time to be Talking Boxing with me and the fans... Calvin Brock:Yeah, I mean it is a pleasure and it is an honor to be talking with all the fans and Talking Boxing...

Garth Weaver: I have to say that you have really been stepping it up lately, is 2005 going to be your year?

Calvin Brock: 2005, I am going to be a World Champion this year.

Garth Weaver: You're going to be a World Champion this year?

Calvin Brock: World Champion this year...After I beat Jameel McCline it's going to line me up for a World Title, I mean who else am I supposed to face (Off) against? Who else is bigger than me to prove myself against?

Garth Weaver: By the way I saw you in Houston when you fought against Etienne, and that was a pretty dramatic statement that you made right there...

Calvin Brock: What statement did I make?

Garth Weaver: A very strong one.

Calvin Brock: Oh, as far as how I won, the team made the statement. Your going to see in this boxing match right here that I am going to make another statement: That I am the real heavyweight champion of the world!

Garth Weaver: I there anyone you have in mind in your line to the title run?

Calvin Brock: No, it's however God blesses me and however he directs my path, that's the way I'm going to take it...You know, for a title I am going to have to win first. I really don't know. All I know is, give me time, and the whole world is gonna know I'm the real Heavyweight Champion.

Garth Weaver: Awesome. Speaking of the Heavyweight Picture, how do you see the overall Heavyweight picture?

Calvin Brock: Right now, people are oblivious to whose the Heavyweight Champion, I mean, they don't even know. They still thinking back to when Lennox Lewis was Champion, Holyfield and Mike Tyson. People always asking me who the Heavyweight Champion of the World is, and I got a name for people, it's Calvin Brock...They're still looking for the real Champion, I'm the person that's going to come up and clear it all up, so when it's asked around the world who's Heavyweight Champion, they are gonna say it's me, Calvin Brock.

Garth Weaver: Jameel McCline recently has been quoted in an interview saying he is going to stop you when he fights you..What is you're response to that? Do you have anything you want to say to that?

Calvin Brock: Man, he ain't gonna stop nothing, man! I got more knockouts than him, if anybody is going to get knocked out it is going to be him...I mean he isn't good enough to even hit me like that. That's talk, man. Talk don't mean jack! It's all about what you can do. HE isn't even regarded as a knockout artist. I'm regarded as a killer knockout artist; Power Puncher, not him...He's regarded as the one that's been coming in the ring fighting scared, scared to get hit and everything, kind of timid. Can't nobody say that about me. I go in the ring and I bring the pain and take my opponents out. He ain't me...He's him, and I'm me. My train of history says that I don't lose. I'm 24 and 0, 20 knockouts. His history says that, first of all he don't beat Olympians cause he didn't beat Klitschko and he didn't beat Chris Byrd. He didn't beat world class fighters, he didn't beat Klitschko who at the time was considered world class. He didn't beat Chris Byrd. I'm a world class fighter, going to be the Heavyweight Champion of the world and he ain't going to beat me. He's just talking, man. He's just trying to build whatever confidence up and whatever confidence he got is a false sense of confidence. The truth is this: if anyones getting knocked out it is going to be him.

Garth Weaver: What round can we Bank on you winning this fight?

Calvin Brock: Oh, I'm not even predicting a round, but I tell you this: I am going to win it, and if anybody's going get knocked out it's going to be him. GW. Strong Words...Nice...Well lets take some of the focus off the upcoming fight on the 23rd. What do you see after McCline? Who do you see as a real good fight for you to take?

Calvin Brock: Any of the world title holders. Any of those title holders step in the ring with me, they will see that title come and go, and the title is coming over to the truth, and I'm the truth. The people of the world deserve the truth, and I am going to give them the truth: I am the real Heavyweight Champion of the World, so it doesn't matter. I am taking all the titles one by one. I really can't call nobody out because there are a lot of Championships- All the Heavyweights are defending their titles, besides Chris Byrd at the end of this month and May or June. The picture might change, so it's kind of hard to say, we'll just have to wait and see...

Garth Weaver: Speaking of the picture changing, who do you like out of the Toney-Ruiz fight?

Calvin Brock: Ok, well out of the Toney-Ruiz, I like Toney. Out of Klitschko and Hasim Rahman, it's kind of hard to call it, but I am going to lean towards Klitschko. With Lamon Brewster and Andrew Golota it's a toss up, I'm pretty much going to lean towards Lamon Brewster because he is a little more consistent in his performances and with Golota, you don't know which Golota you're going to get. And Chris Byrd, he don't have a championship lined up right now to defend his title, I don't think.

Garth Weaver: So it looks that might be you sitting in that seat..

Calvin Brock: Yeah, you know it could be me and Chris Byrd this Summer, you never know....

Garth Weaver: Awesome...So 2005 is definitely going to be your year to shine...

Calvin Brock: Yeah, I started the year up shining, before I knocked out Etienne, I am going to shine on the 23rd of this month, and I'm going to shine throughout the rest of the year in becoming the Champion.

Garth Weaver: Awesome, well we look forward to seeing it.

Calvin Brock: Thank you.
