4/28 - 22-year old NABF featherweight champion
Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero has his eyes set on becoming a world champion soon and the Ghost has been nothing but impressive as of late.
Earlier this month he dominated a game Adrian Valdez, 16-4-4, scoring a 12th round TKO on a ShoBox fight card. 'The Ghost', 15-0-1, has big plans for the rest of the year, and with trainer John Bray in his corner he will be looking at a possible world title shot by the end of the year.
Talkingboxing.com caught up with Guerrero recently to get his feelings about his career and much more.
“I learned I could go 12 rounds in that fight. Valdez did a lot of dirty things in the ring. But it was a great learning experience. It was one of my toughest fights,” explained Guerrero about his fight with Valdez.
Many fight fans dismissed Valdez as a journeyman opponent, but he was a young and hungry fighter looking to make his mark against the respected Guerrero, but Robert was more then prepared. And a lot of that can be attributed to his trainer, the respected John Bray.
“It helps to have a guy in your corner who has been there. He knows what I am going through in there, and psychologically it gives me confidence in him,” stated Guerrero.
Guerrero at 5’10” walks around at 138 or 139 pounds, and he indicates while it is easy for him to make weight and he plans on making Featherweight home for quite some time. “ I want to unify the division. It is so easy for me to make weight. I don’t have to starve myself 3 days before the fight. It is amazing.”
Fellow young featherweight contender, Rocky Juarez will be fighting for his first world title when he takes on In Jin Chi in July for the WBC crown. And Guerrero points out Juarez will be in for a tough fight.
“It is going to be a rough and rugged fight. Rocky Juarez is so focused; he never gets out of his game. And he has a good left hook. So it is going to be good tough fight. I am going to be rooting for Rocky Juarez,” said Guerrero.
While he will be pulling for Juarez, he is looking to remain active. He wants fighting for title by the end of the year, maybe Juarez if he wins the title. “I want to fight the best. And with John Bray in my corner, he will have me ready to go.”
Expect Guerrero to continue to impress and gain experience on his way to a world title shot, possibly by years end.
