TalkingBoxing Interviews
Attention All Featherweights, Be a Afraid of Ghosts
FRI December 2, Julius Stecker - NABF featherweight champion, "The Ghost" Robert Guerrero is back tonight on 'ShoBox: The Next Generation' taking on veteran and WBC #7th ranked Gamailiel Diaz, 15-9-5. The prospect turned contender Guerrero, 16-0, will put his WBC #2 ranking on the line and could find himself with a title shot in 2006. The guerrero-Diaz co-feature will be taking place in Lemoore, CA at the Palace Indian Gaming Center. TalkingBoxing caught up with Robert for a very brief interview.
TalkingBoxing: How is training going?
Robert Guerrero: Training is going great. I have been working on a lot of different things.
TalkingBoxing: Tell us about Gamaliel Diaz, what does he bring to table?
Robert Guerrero: He is rough and tough. And he has not lost in 4 years, so he is coming in to win. I think he is ranked number 2 by the WBC. So I know he is coming to fight.
TalkingBoxing: In the past you have been known to spar with bigger guys, is that trend continuing.
Robert Guerrero: This time I have been working with guys around my weight, and some guys even lighter. Guys with fast feet and fast hands, it has helped keep me sharp.
TalkingBoxing: Tell everybody John Bray and how he is helping you grow as a fighter.
Robert Guerrero: John Bray really has a lot of patience. He just doesn’t throw things out there. He helps me make adjustments so I keep improving my technique. He is sharpening my skills each and every day. Right now I am working on sticking to a game plan, focusing, learning, and coming out of camp sharp and ready to go.
TalkingBoxing: You are a relatively big featherweight, and I know I have asked this in the past, but now you are older, but do you have any trouble making 126?
Robert Guerrero: The weight is no problem at all. I am only 22 years old, but right now I have no trouble making 126. Pretty soon in the future I will move up, but right now I am comfortable making featherweight.
TalkingBoxing: What is your take on the Featherweight division?
Robert Guerrero: The featherweight division right now is the strongest in the boxing.
TalkingBoxing: What can we expect this Friday?
Robert Guerrero: I am always expecting a tough fight. I prepare to the best of my ability. But everybody can expect a whole different more improved Robert Guerrero.
TalkingBoxing: Thanks Ghost
Robert Guerrero: Thank You!
