4/29 - The life of first grade teacher is supposed to be simple. You go to work, you teach the basics to the youth of America, and you may have to discipline a few little rascals every now and then. For the most part it is a rewarding daily experience. Now boxing can't be anymore different. Some would think boxing and school teaching can't coexist, but
One in a Million star
Jimmy Holmes is the exception to the rule.
TalkingBoxing.com caught up with the 'Fighting School Teacher' to get his interesting story.
Holmes, 9-0-1, will be fighting on the One in a Million fight card May 20th in Merrilville, Indiana at the Radission Star Hotel. He explains he is in good shape and ready to go for this upcoming fight.
"Training is going good. Right now I am going to take it one fight at a time. Maybe in couple fights I will be fighitng for a state title."
Holmes day job of teaching doesn't keep him from the gym. He believes it keeps his training more regimented. He stated, "Some days I get up extra early to run. But it keeps my day scheduled. I am usually home at around 3:30-4PM everyday, so I can get good work out in after that."
Holmes is a classic good guy, a man parents can feel safe sending there kids to. But one has to wonder what happens at the first parent teacher conference.
Jimmy spars with a lot of fighters in the One in a Million stable on a consistent basis and he has been quite active inside the ring since he turned pro in 2003. There is more to life then boxing.
"I look at myself as a teacher first, and a fighter second. It is every fighters dream to fight for a title, but that is not what it is all about."
Holmes will be looking to excite fight fans May 20th. "It is going to be loud on May 20th. Fight fans can expect me to come out and put my punches together and to come out on top."
