Talking Boxing with MIKE WALKER
WED July 13, JULIUS STECKER - Rising middleweight prospect Michael Walker finds himself just a few days away from a July 15th showdown against Jimmy Gonzalez at the Aragon Balroom in Chicago, IL.

The 26-year old native of the "Windy City" notes that Gonzalez already pulled out of a "Midnight Stalker" bout before, but come Friday night on Telefutura, time will tell who the better fighter is.

"Gonzalez will learn on the 15th that he choose the wrong guy because he does not respect me. So I will force him to respect me," Walker said.

TalkingBoxing.com caught up with the solid middleweight prospect for a quick question and answer. Without a doubt, tine into Telefutura on Friday night to watch Walker battle Gonzalez. will make some noise with the help of One in a Million promoting!

TalkingBoxing: How is training going?

Mike Walker: It is going GREAT! Good conditioning and good sparring. My trainers Carlos Jones and Martin McGarry have put a lot together for this fight. And I'm ready for whatever.

TalkingBoxing: Tell us about your upcoming fight?

Mike Walker: Well, It is this Friday (July 15th) on Telefutura against Jimmy Gonzalez who is a pretty good fighter.

TalkingBoxing: You and your opponent Jimmy Gonzalez are two young undefeated fighters, tell us about this match-up?

Mike Walker: Julius. The first time the fight was scheduled he pulled out. So this Friday will tell it all. No doubt about it.

TalkingBoxing: Do you guys have any kind of history, be it in the amateurs or in sparring?

Mike Walker: We went to a lot of tournaments together. But we never fought in the armatures. Lucky for him. But we sparred once. But like my manager Octavius said, all that is different from the real thing.

TalkingBoxing: What sort of things do you know about Gonzalez?

Mike Walker: He's an ok fighter. I know this much. He is not ready for the "Midnight Stalker" and Team ONE IN A MILLION.

TalkingBoxing: You have been quite active as of late, but how many more fights do you want to have the rest of this year?

Mike Walker: I owe that all to my manager Octavius James and Team ONE IN A MILLION. As I said before when he says fight we fight. We take one fight at a time. So right now we are concentrating on July 15th. But however many he schedules for me I will be there with gloves on.

TalkingBoxing: For people who haven't seen you fight, describe your fighting style.

Mike Walker: Hmm, well I guess I can box , bang what ever the opponent comes with I can adjust to.

TalkingBoxing: What sort of time table are you looking at before you are ready for the top contenders in the division?

Mike Walker: Again, (Julius) that's all on Octavius. He does his job and my trainers their. I do just mine. All I know is that I'm ready for what ever.

TalkingBoxing: A change of pace question for you, tell everybody what fighters influenced you coming up.

Mike Walker: I can relate more to Bernard Hopkins and James Toney for how they over came the adversity that I over came. And that I'm still proven myself in this game.

TalkingBoxing: Do you ever take anything from the top guys, and try to apply it to your game?

Mike Walker: Most definitely. You can learn something from every fighter. And Gonzalez will learn on the 15th that he choose the wrong guy. Because he does not respect me. So I will force him to respect me.

TalkingBoxing: Quick prediction on the upcoming middleweight fight, who do you like between Hopkins and Taylor and why?

Mike Walker: I have much love for B-Hop. But Jermaine is real hungry so it is a toss up. But one thing about it I would love to be in a position to fight the winner. (Laughing)

TalkingBoxing: You are part of resurgence in the in Chicago boxing, tell us how One In A Million is helping with that, and where you fit in there?

Mike Walker: I fit right in there because I'm the best Middleweight in the Windy City and with ONE IN A MILLION behind me I will prove that I one of the best in the world. And if there are any doubters, they know Octavius or his buddy Dominic's number. [Referring to Dominic Pesoli at 8 Count Productions]

TalkingBoxing: What can we expect come July 15th?

Mike Walker: Late July 4th Fireworks!
