Talking Boxing with MICHAEL WALKER
THU July 28, JULIUS STECKER - TalkingBoxing.com caught up with Chicago based middleweight prospect Michael Walker for a brief interview after his recent fight against Jimmy Gonzalez. The bout was competitive and hard fought, but it ended in a draw much to the dismay of Walker. Many in attendance that night felt that Walker controlled the actionand won the fight, but the judges considered the verdict a stalemate. Read on to see what Walker had to say, and much more...
TalkingBoxing: Tell everybody why you felt you won the fight against Gonzalez?
Michael Walker: (Laughing) First off I would like to thank Dominic at 8 Count. (Julius). I out punch him cleaner and harder. Beside the first round he had nothing for me. I was much sharper.
TalkingBoxing: Will there be a rematch, and do you want a rematch?
Michael Walker: (Shouting) Any time. Anywhere. And if it was up to me we could have reset the time clock and did the rematch that night and did six more rounds. Octavius (Referring to Octavius James CEO of ONE IN A MILLION INC.) will make the ultimate decision on when and where.
TalkingBoxing: You have mentioned previously you want to stay active, so when do you want to fight next?
Michael Walker: August 16th I am the co-main event on a small show that is coming up. And I am feeling good and ready to go.
TalkingBoxing: Would you ever consider fighting other fighters from Chicago, like your friend Shay Mobley, or Miguel "Macho" Hernandez?
Michael Walker: (Cutting in) NEVER. NEVER. First off Octavius would not stand for that what so ever. And besides Shay is my family we have been together through everything together and Miguel is my friend we all help each other. Now they're a couple of other middleweights in Chicago that might want to feel the pain. And I say again they have Octavius and Dominic numbers.
TalkingBoxing: What was your take on Taylor-Hopkins; did you think Taylor deserved the victory?
Michael Walker: I think so. Hopkins did not bring it until late.
TalkingBoxing: Who would win that rematch?
Michael Walker: Hopkins. He could have beaten him the first time.
TalkingBoxing: What is your opinion of the fight game right now; who do you think is the best fighter pound 4 pound?
Michael Walker: No question about it. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
TalkingBoxing: In closing, what can fight fans expect next from you and One in a Million Boxing?
Michael Walker: Big Things. We are proven. Shay Mobley, Marty Jakubowski, Jermaine White, Johnny Novak and Jimmy Holmes. We are ready to make our mark. With Octavius and OIAM giving us that boost. I see nothing but good things. Just remember you heard it first from Julius Stecker and TALKINGBOXING.COM
