After Great Camp, Brewster in Chicago
MON May 16 - WBO Heavyweight Champ Lamon Brewster arrived in Chicago yesterday and will spend the upcoming week making final preparations for his title defense Saturday, May 21st against Andrew Golota at the United Center here in Chicago.

Brewster will be training privately at the Warehouse Gym and Boxing Club 1546 Old Deerfield Road in Highland Park. There will be a media day and open workout to be announced shortly where local boxing fans are encouraged to see Brewster workout and afterward, the champ will sign autographs, talk and pose for pictures with fans.

"We're excited to be here in Chicago", said Brewster's trainer, the legendary, Jesse Reid. "Lamon has had a great camp, he's trim at 225 pounds and in outstanding shape." Asked whether or not Team Brewster is concerned fighting on Golota's home turf, a confident Reid said, "no, because this one isn't going to the judges. Lamon's gonna knock him out."

An equally confident Sam Simon, Brewster's manager and creator of the popular TV show "The Simpson's", feel's that this fight will be a coronation of sorts.

"Lamon is very overlooked for being the Heavyweight Champion", said Simon. "May 21st, Lamon will show the world why he will be a force to be reckoned with in the Heavyweight division."

The Warehouse Gym and Boxing Club is Chicago's and the North shore's hottest spot for boxing and weight training. Open to pros and amateurs, white collar and blue collar enthusiasts, the Warehouse Gym is a six thousand foot gym with two boxing rings, heavy bags, speed bags, free and machine weights, treadmills, a steam room and male and female locker rooms with shower facilities.

Trinidad Retires
MON May 16 - After a unanimous decision loss, former 3-time world champ Felix Trinidad has reportedly retired, again.

On the heels of suffering a humiliating loss to Winky Wright on Saturday night in Las Vegas, Trinidad (42-2, 35 KO's) announced that he was retiring after his plane flight landed in San Juan, Puerto Rico, yesterday.

This came after his father had told him that he was retiring as his trainer because he felt that he had not done a good job in his corner during the fight.

Trinidad's father said "I don't feel that I am giving my 100 percent in the corner, as I used to. Because of this, I feel I don't want to carry on working in the ring."

This will be the second official retirement for Trinidad, who retired previously shortly after getting knocked out by Bernard Hopkins on September 29th, 2001.

Khan Makes Pro Debut, July 16th
MON May 16 - Following Amir Khan's sensational victory over Cuban legend Mario Kindelan last Saturday night at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton, promoter Frank Warren is delighted to announce that Khan will make his professional debut on July 16 at the ExCeL London.

The Bolton star finally got revenge over the double Olympian and three-time World amateur champion with a brilliant performance to win 19-13 on the scorecards in rematch of their final in Athen's last year.

Now, the 18-year-old, regarded as the hottest young property in world boxing, will make his highly-anticipated debut on the undercard of Matt Skelton's British Heavyweight title defence against Danny Williams.

Warren, who will manage and promote Khan, said, "Amir's debut on 16 July will be the start of a journey that will hopefully lead to him becoming Britain's youngest ever World Champion. I am really excited and looking forward to working with him to achieve this."

Khan, currently in Estoril for the prestigious Laureus Sports Awards where he has been nominted in the Best Newcomer category, said, "I'm looking forward to making my debut and can't wait to check out what is in store for me in the pros. As an amateur I've beaten everyone in the world and following my win over Kindelan there is nothing else I can do in the sport. Turning professionals offers me new and exciting tests and I aim to become the best out there."

Williams, the former British Heavyweight champion who headlines the blockbuster show and bids to regain his crown, enthused, "Amir was fantastic against Kindelan and showed just how much he has improved since the Olympics. He seemed a different fighter with improved confidence against the Cuban veteran and was physically stronger as well. I am delighted that his making his pro-debut on the same show as me and wish him all the best for the future."

Arnaoutis Out of ShoBox Bout
MON May 16 - Cestus Management's junior welterweight sensation "Mighty" Mike Arnaoutis has sustained an injury in training, and has been forced to withdraw from his bout with Marco Angel Perez, scheduled for this coming Friday's edition of the Showtime Network's ShoBox: The New Generation series.

A pulled muscle in "Mighty" Mike's upper back prompted Cestus Management and Arnaoutis to make the difficult decision to cancel the fight.

"We apologize to our loyal fans for this unfortunate occurrence," commented Advisor Mike Michael. "Every athlete sustains injuries at some point or another, it's something that simply isn't within our power to control. This was not the kind of decision we like to make, but we cannot allow 'Mighty' Mike to get into that ring under these circumstances.

"We'll deal with this situation just like we deal with all of our fights: We'll find a way to win. The rest of the young fighters at 140 pounds have a lot of catching up to do anyway, so this won't be a setback for our team. We'll get Mike back in the ring and back on the air as soon as we possibly can, and we'll come back from this injury and still be ahead of schedule.

"Gary Shaw Productions has been incredibly involved and supportive with our team throughout the last year, and I'm sure that we'll be able to work with them and put together a great fight for 'Mighty' Mike right off the bat. I also want the fans to make sure and tune in to ShoBox this Friday, even though Mike won't be on the card. Gary Shaw Productions doesn't stage bad cards, and the Showtime Network doesn't broadcast bad cards, everyone got yet another example of that two weeks ago with Corrales and Castillo. This Friday will be no exception.

"Once again, I want to assure all of our fans that 'Mighty' Mike will be back in the ring in the very near future. Once this injury heals up, he'll be looking better than ever!"
