Jones Wins USBA Title over Moore
SAT July 2 - George Khalid Jones won the vacant USBA 175-lb title last night on ESPN2's 'Friday Night Fights' when Freddie Moore could no longer continue because a accidental clash of heads in the 9th round.
Jones, 23-2-1, was ahead after nine completed rounds on two the judges' scorecards, 88-83 and Moore, 30-4, was ahead 88-83 on the third judge's card.
After the cut was opened over Moore's eye, ringside doctor Mark Durfee told referee Dick Flaherty to end the fight.
In undercard action, heavyweight Robert Wiggins, 20-4-1, stopped Courage Tshabalala, who did not answer the bell for the fifth round.
