Wladimir to Sam Peter: "It is time to walk the walk"
TUE July 26 - If Samuel Peter is looking for a fight, Wladimir Klitschko is ready and willing to oblige him.
“Peter has challenged me to a fight,” the former World Boxing Organization heavyweight champion and 1996 Olympic Games gold medalist said. “Well, I wholeheartedly accept the challenge. Let’s do it. I am ready. The question is, is Samuel Peter ready?
“Peter can talk the talk, but now it is time to walk the walk.’’
Two days ago Klitschko’s promotional company, K2, made an offer to Duva Boxing, the undefeated Nigerian’s promoter, to fight Sept. 24 on HBO.
“The offer was for more money than Peter has ever earned for a fight in his career,” Bernd Boente, Personal Manager Klitschko Brothers, said. “We told Peter’s people that they could decide if they wanted the fight to take place in either the United States or Germany, where Peter would even earn more money.’’
Added Klitschko: “It doesn’t matter to me where it takes place. I want the fight. HBO loves the matchup. So now it is up to Samuel Peter.
“Peter says the moment of truth has arrived. I don’t believe Samuel Peter can handle the truth. If I am wrong, then we can fight.”
The winner of the 12-round bout would take over the No. 1 spot in the International Boxing Federation and become the mandatory challenger for the winner of the Chris Byrd-DaVarryl Williamson heavyweight title bout. Klitschko (44-3, 40 KOs) and Peter (24-0, 21 KOs) are the current IBF No. 4 and No. 5 contenders, respectively.
