Peter-Klitschko a Hot Ticket
TUE August 30 - Tickets are moving fast for the September 24, 2005, Sam Peter-Wladimir Klitschko & Miguel Cotto-Gianluca Branco Boardwalk Brawl event at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
As of Friday, August 26, over 6000 of the 12,000 available seats had already been sold. "It's unbelievable!!! Tickets have been available for less than three weeks and in the laziest part of the dog days of summer. Who would have known that these tickets would be moving like this," said event promoter Dino Duva of Duva Boxing (in association with Top Rank and K-2 Promotions). These sales figures are proving that this is a terrific fight for boxing fans and also that Atlantic City is a major player for big-time boxing.
Anticipation is already at an incredible high for this intriguing heavyweight war. "It's the most anticipated fight in the heavyweight division this year," agreed Klitschko trainer Emanuel Steward. "I just did an HBO broadcast in Chicago and everybody is talking about it. This fight is creating excitement."
Tickets for Boardwalk Brawls - Samuel Peter vs. Wladimir Klitschko box-off for the IBF and WBO's number-one contenderships, as well as WBO Super Lightweight champion Miguel Cotto's title defense against Gianluca Branco are still available at TicketMaster. They are priced between $50 and $400.
The very special undercard for the most hotly anticipated boxing event of the year will be announced later this week.
Pacquiao Throws Out First Pitch
TUE August 30 - Pac Man Fever will be running rampant This Thursday, September 1st at Angels Stadium of Anaheim when three-time world champion and the pride of The Philippines, MANNY PACQUIAO, throws out the ceremonial first pitch (6:49 P.M. PT) before game three of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim - Oakland A's series. The A's currently have a one-game lead over the second place Angels in the exciting American League West Division title race.
Pacquiao, 39-3-2 (30 KOs), has thrown knuckle balls throughout his career, en route to titles as the WBC flyweight champion, the IBF jr. featherweight champion and The Ring magazine featherweight champion.
Pacquiao, who is training in Hollywood with Freddie Roach, will take on Hector Velazquez, 41-10-2 (30 KOs), for the WBC International super featherweight championship, Saturday, September 10, at Staples Center.
Pacquiao will headline the card with three-time world champion Erik Morales, 48-2 (34 KOs), who will be fighting 1996 U.S. Olympian Zahir Raheem, 26-1 (18 KOs), in a 12-round WBC International lightweight title rumble. Both championship fights will be televised live on HBO. Victories by Pacquiao and Morales will lead to a rematch of their exciting March 19, 2005 PPV rumble, won by Morales via a narrow 12-round decision.
WBC wants tests for Jones
TUE August 30 - President Jose Sulaiman of the World Boxing Council has requeted that boxer Roy Jones Jr. undergo neurological testing before his Octtober 1st re-match with light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver.
The Mexico City-based organization said that it was deeply concerned for Jones, who has been knocked out in his previous two fights. Tarver stopped Jones in the second-round of their May 2004 bout and Glenn Johnson knocked out Jones in their September, 2004 IBF title fight.
"We believe that (Jones) should have a solid economic position to live comfortably for the rest of his life, and he shouldn't let - for any reason - his pride as a great champion push him to risk his health or his life," WBC President Jose Sulaiman said in the statement.
Guzman Ready for Harrison!
TUE August 30 - After a spectacular performance in White Plains, New York on Friday night, featherweight Joan Guzman (24 – 0, 17 KOs) has now moved into the World Boxing Organization’s #1 position.
Guzman handed Terdak Jandaeng his first defeat via a unanimous decision (117-110, 119-108, 119-108) and positioned himself for a bout against W.B.O. Featherweight Champion Scott Harrison.
“I came into the ring with the goal of boxing well, which I did, and putting myself in a situation where Scott Harrison has to give me a shot. If I can beat Harrison impressively, the big fights I want against Marquez, Barrera, Morales, or Pacquiao will be within my grasp,” stated Guzman.
Guzman is managed by Jose Nunez and promoted by Sycuan Ringside Promotions.
Hot Month for Goossen-Tutor Stars
TUE August 30 - With a hectic 8-world class boxing events in just 23 days, it will undoubtedly be a period of time to remember for Goossen Tutor Promotions and their fighters, as it brings major events and match-ups to fight fans around the world.

Gonzalez Battles for IBF Title, September 9th
First up on September 9, former world champion Julio Gonzalez looks to regain the light heavyweight crown when he travels to Sheffield, England to face IBF 175-pound king Clinton Woods. A Gonzalez victory puts him right in the middle of the Roy Jones, Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson group.
NABF Champ Guerrero Defends Crown, Septeber 16th
Next up on September 16, At the Palace Indian Gaming Center in Lemoore, California, unbeaten NABF featherweight champion Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero defends his NABF title in a 12-round bout. Also featured is highly regarded heavyweight prospect Rafael Butler in a 6-round bout. Guerrero is now universally considered the heir apparent to the featherweight crown.
Lakva Sim Battles Ebo Elder in WBA Eliminator
Travel starts to get hectic for Goossen Tutor because that same night in Atlanta, Georgia, Goossen Tutor’s former lightweight champion Lakva Sim faces top contender Ebo Elder in a WBA Lightweight title elimination bout, with the winner to face champion Juan Diaz. As an added incentive for Sim, who lost his crown to the unbeaten Diaz, is the prospect of facing Diaz healthy and with the added tutelage of Joe Goossen for the past 4 months.
Peden Takes on Barrera on PPV
One day later and a flight back to West Coast time, Robbie Peden puts his IBF super featherweight crown on the line in a unification bout against WBC champion Marco Antonio Barrera at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, September 17. This bout will headline a card to be televised on HBO PPV. Peden looks to throw himself into superstar status with a victory over Barrera on Mexican Independence Day, Australian style.
Johnson Battles Jones in IBF Eliminator
Goossen Tutor brings a special Friday night edition of FSN’s ‘Best Damn Fight Night Period’ on September 30th, when former light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson returns to the ring in an IBF title eliminator against hard-hitting world contender George Khalid Jones. The card, which will be telecast live from the Cache Creek Casino Resort right outside Sacramento, California, will also feature an eight round heavyweight contest between up-and-comers Jason Gavern and Travis Walker and undefeated (26-0, 19 KOs) welterweight Paul "the Punisher" Williams.
Toney Takes on Guinn, October 1st
The next night and a short plane ride to Reno, it’s the fan anxious and long-awaited return to the ring of former middleweight, super middleweight, cruiserweight, and heavyweight champion James ‘Lights Out’ Toney, who battles tough Dominick Guinn in Reno, Nevada on Saturday, October 1. Showtime Championship Boxing televises “Lights Out in Reno” ‘Its Showtime’ event at the Reno Events Center.
