Beyer retains WBC title
SUN September 4 - Markus Beyer retained his WBC super middleweight title Saturday by winning a unanimous 12-round decision over American Omar Sheika.

The German Beyer (33-2) won by a score of 116-112 on two judges' cards and 118-110 on another. Beyer has now won four straight fights since losing to Cristian Sanavia on June 5, 2004. His first victory in the current stretch was a rematch win over Sanavia.

Sheika, a native of Paterson, New Jersey, fell to 26-8 in his career. His last two losses have been in title fights with the other setback coming in another unanimous decision against IBF super middleweight titleholder Jeff Lacy on December 4, 2004.

Byrd-Williamson October 1st on Showtime
SUN September 4 - In what's shaping up to be a solid card, SHOWTIME Championship Boxing's has added an IBF heavyweight title fight between champion Chris Byrd and top-rated contender DaVarryl Williamson on October 1st at the Reno Events Center, Reno, Nevada. The Byrd-Williamson clash will be the co-feature to the James Toney versus Dominick Guinn heavyweight fight. Also on tap, IBF bantamweight champ and TalkingBoxing Top 10 'Pound for Pound' fighter Rafael Marquez takes on Silence Mabuza.
