Corrales, Castillo Q&A from Showtime
TUE October 4 - Steve Albert: Diego, do you think the rematch will be tougher than the first?
Diego Corrales: I do think the rematch will be tougher. I cannot see it happening any other way. Castillo is not going to be less tough than what he was last time. He is a great champion, and a great fighter. So, I cannot see why it would be any less hard than the first time.
Albert: Jose, you have had time to reflect on the stoppage of the first fight and the mouthpiece controversy. Are you okay with everything now?
Jose Luis Castillo: I am calm about everything. Now that I have an opportunity to make things right, I am very happy to be here.
Al Bernstein: Diego, a lot of people were surprised by your strategy in the first fight when you decided to go inside and trade with Castillo. Will we see more of the same in the rematch?
Corrales: I think that is a great idea. Why not? All styles are made the way they are. There is not going to be a big change in style. I cannot really change who I am. That would not help me at all.
Bernstein: Jose, do you plan to do anything differently for this fight?
Castillo: You are going to see the same thing out of me. It is going to be the same style of fight, the same thing I have been doing my whole career. I just hope that Corrales and his training have not changed anything.
Albert: Diego, do you feel you are on the verge of creating one of boxing’s great rivalries?
Corrales: I do not think we are on the verge of creating a great rivalry. I think we already have. If you put us (Corrales and Castillo) together 100 times, 99 times we are going to fight exactly like that.
Albert: Jose, do you feel this is a part of a classic rivalry?
Castillo: I hope these (our fights) will be like those Rocky movies. We can do six of them, both of us winning a lot of money.
One in a Million Scores a Knockout
TUE October 4 - On a beautiful September 30th night in Merrillville, Indiana at the Radisson Hotel & Star Plaza, One in a Million Inc. scored a knockout with its action packed card. It was filled with numerous knockouts, and entertaining fights. Two fighters really cemented themselves as legitimate prospects in the process. Michael Walker and Jermaine White once again proved themselves worthy of praise as young rising fighters. Both put on excellent performances, furthering their careers for the future.
Female boxer prospect Mary McGee opened action up with a quick 1st round knockout over her overmatched opponent. But after that the fireworks started. Jermaine White (11-0) stepped in against Danny Schleinz (5-8) in what was supposed to be a walkover. Schleinz came in game though, pressing the action early on, forcing the issue. But as he did that, it required White to open up on him. The end came in round 5 with a spectacular knockout courtesy of White right hand. Schleinz collapsed to the canvas, and did not move a muscle for at least 20 seconds. When he came to his senses, White was the winner via knockout and on his way to bigger and better things.
The most impressive performer of the evening was Michael “The Midnight Stalker” Walker (9-0-1); the chiseled middleweight took on a more experienced and very game, Anthony “Showtime” Shuler 18-4-1). And he just walked through him winning via a 4th round TKO. While Walker is still young and relatively inexperienced, he is as strong as an ox, and he punches with a relentless nature. If brought along correctly, Walker could be a legitimate contender in the next few years. Walker said after the fight, “This win meant a lot, but I want to continue to fight more and step up the level of competition.” With more performances like that, he will be looking at more opportunities at name prospects.
In the main event, Jimmy “The Fighting School Teacher” Holmes (11-0) fought to a non descript, no contest against James Morrow (8-1). All in the all the card was quite entertaining and One in a Million continues to put on excellent shows for the Northwest Indiana region.
