Halquist signs Heavyweight Star in the Making Kevin Johnson
3/25 - Northwest boxing promoter, Brian Halquist, announced
today that he has signed heavyweight Kevin Johnson.
“Kevin is one of the best young heavyweight prospects
in the world” Halquist said.
“Johnson, who is 25
years old, had fifteen amateur fights going 14-1. He
is undefeated as a pro (7-0-1, 4kos). Kevin has
already proven himself as a “prospect”, an overused
term in the sport of boxing these days” Halquist
continued.
Johnson, in his fourth pro fight, drew
with Russian Timor Ibragimov (now 19-0-1) on ShoBox in
June of 2004 and beat Robert Wiggins (19-3-1) in
September of last year. “Not bad for a fighter who,
in his entire career (amateur and professional) has
only had twenty-three total fights” Halquist
commented.
The signing just happened in New York. “I
saw Kevin work out in the gym in New Jersey. He is a
committed professional athlete and we couldn’t be more
exited to have him on our team. To steal a quote from
the late, great gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson,
‘We are paying for the ticket and taking the ride’.
It’s a ride that will be fast and furious!” Halquist
said.
