"Big and the Bad" Features Maskaev-Navarre at Grand Casino, 1/22

1/17 - Professional boxing is starting the new year with a card of top name fighters from around the world and some local heroes looking to make a name for themselves across the globe in extremely tough contests. This will be KNOCKOUTS AT COUSHATTA VI at the Grand Casino Coushatta.

The main event will feature heavyweights Oleg Maskaev, 29-5, from Russia by way of Uzbekistan against Quinn Navarre, 30-12-1, from Louisiana in 10 rounds. Maskaev holds knockout power in both hands and has wins over Julius Frances, Derrick Jefferson, and former world champion Hasim Rahman all by knockout. Navarre is best remembered for his controversial decision loss to former world champion Larry Holmes. Both fighters have the ability to knock the other out in this fight. Maskaev has just come off a recent split decision win over David DeFiagbon, 21-1, in Atlantic City.

The co-main event may be one of the best female matchups for this year. Sumya “The Island Girl” Anani from Kansas City, Missouri will be putting her IBA World Welterweight Title on the line against Belinda “Brown Sugar” Laracuente from Puerto Rico, who is former world champion in a 10 rounder. These two girls are the top two welterweights in the world.

In a six round welterweight showdown, Lafayette, Louisiana’s “Bad” Chad Broussard, 45-4, will be looking for redemption against Moises Martinez, 7-11, of Rome, Georgia in what will be a slug-out showdown. Although Martinez comes in with a spotty record he has won 4 of his last 6 bouts with one of those wins coming against an undefeated fighter and a TKO win in 3 rounds over Broussard in their last fight at the Grand Casino Coushatta dropping Broussard in the second round. Broussard quit in the third round against Martinez. Both fighters are come forward styles in what will be an exciting match-up.

Rounding out the card will be the ever popular Blake “The Candyman” Prevost, 1-0-1, from Lawtell, Louisiana against veteran Miguel Cuellar Aquila (10-32-1) from Havanna, Cuba in a light-heavyweight contest over 4 rounds. This match is attracting the attention of the boxing public across the country to see the results of the very well decorated amateur sensation, Prevost against a seasoned veteran of 43 professional fights.

Aquila most recent win this past year was a first round knockout of Anthony Adams in Panama City, Florida. Both fighters have a common opponent in Anthony Greeley whom Prevost fought to a draw in his second professional contest while Aquila fought Greeley twice with a draw in 2001 and a win in 2002.
