SANCHEZ RETURNS TO WHIPPANY | Nice Undercard on April 8th
3/31 - Former Jr. Featherweight champion Agapito "El Ciclón"
Sanchez is set to return to the ring April 8 when he headlines an
exciting boxing event that will be presented by promoter Andre Kut's
KEA Boxing. Along with Sanchez, who will see action against an
opponent to be determined, will be Middletown's Johnny Molnar (19-2-10
KO's), the popular Wendy LaMotta (1-0), undefeated Pawel Wolak (4-0, 2
KOs) and former University of New Haven football standout, Lynhurst's
Wayne Johnson (6-0, 4 KO's) in his New Jersey homecoming.
After two successful events at the Hanover Marriott in Whippany, Kut
is determined to slowly turn the beautiful hotel into a boxing
destination for New Jersey boxing fans, where local talent can hone
their skills. "I am excited about bringing regular boxing shows to
NJ," said Kut. "Last year we did two shows and we're looking to step
it up a notch and be busier in 2005."
Both Johnny Molnar and Wendy LaMotta have fought at KEA's
aforementioned shows at the Hanover Marriott and have put on exciting
performances. After a two year layoff, Molnar fought his heart out on
the last KEA show, earning a tough draw with Culiacan Mexico's Juan
Carlos Escobar, while Wendy LaMotta fought on KEA's first show and won
a hard fought unanimous decision over Myriam Bazile. The April 8th
show will feature the addition of talented crowd favorites in
undefeated light-heavyweight, Wayne Johnson and undefeated
junior-middleweight Pawel Wolak. Agapito Sanchez will be returning
to action for the 10-rund main event.
After a disappointing end to 2004, Sanchez, who was rated No. 3 and
was the leading available contender for Israel Vasquez's IBF Jr.
Featherweight title, will look to regain the lost ground after jumping
two weight divisions to challenge Carlos Navarro for the WBC
Intercontinental crown. The fight, which took place on the undercard
of the Vitali Klitschko-Danny Williams heavyweight championship fight
in Las Vegas, was stopped in the 10th round by referee Richard Steele
after Sanchez suffered two serious cuts.
Now settled at his real weight division, Agapito is confident that
getting back on the winning column will move him one step closer to
one last crack at the big prize. Last October 14 Sanchez defeated the
durable Rogers Mtagwa in a ten-round thriller. Indicative of what
Sanchez has left in his tank is the recent victory of Mtagwa over
Fernando Trejo in what many have described as one of the best
televised fights of the year.
