Mitchell Twins Fighting Mad, Ready for Anybody
Thu February 9 - LAS VEGAS – The battling Mitchell twins out of Philadelphia, Eric (“Murder”) and Aaron (“Homicide”), are looking for a few good fights in 2006 after recently receiving their promotional freedom.
Eric (18-4-1, 9 KOs) is coming off of a sensational first-round knockout of previously unbeaten Rob Dula (15-0-1) a year ago in St. Louis, while Aaron’s (23-1-1, 18 KOs) last fight was a fifth-round stoppage of Carlton Holland 26 months ago in New York City.
“The Mitchell twins against anybody from welterweight to middleweight in the world is like a putting a Rotweiller in against a Poodle,” the Williams’ manager Jim Rider said.
Rated No. 26 by the World Boxing Council, as well as No. 5 by the North American Boxing Association, Eric has won six of his last seven fights, the exception a 10-round loss by decision as a last day replacement against now world junior middleweight champion Ricardo Mayorga. Eric’s most notable victory to date was a 12th round TKO of Ross Thompson (24-4-1) in 2001 for the NABA middleweight title.
Aaron, rated No. 5 by the NABA, is riding an 11-fight win streak, all by knockout, including victims such as Manning Galloway, Miguel Julio, Maurice Adams for the IBC middleweight belt, and Fidel Hernandez. A four-round loss to Keith Mullings in 1993 and controversial 1997 draw with Lloyd Joseph are the only blemishes on Mitchell’s otherwise perfect pro record.
Olympian Estrada Making a Name, Steps up Sunday
THU February 9 - PROVIDENCE, RI – U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada (5-0, 1 KO) plans on making a big splash in the heavyweight pool, starting Sunday night (Feb. 12) against Yanqui Diaz (13-3, 8 KOs) in a six-round bout, on “The Contender Special – East Coast Pride” card, at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence.
“I’m ready, 100-percent,” Estrada said. “I’ve been working hard, three times a day in the gym. I’m eating right, nutrition-wise, and lifting (weights). After this fight hopefully I will have established my name as a top prospect in the heavyweight division.
“Diaz obviously is a good fighter who has been in against some of the best heavyweights in the world. I’m honored to be getting in the ring Sunday night to fight him.”
Estrada, 25, captured a gold medal at the 2003 Pan-American Games and represented the U.S. in the 2004 Olympic Games.
The Cuban-born Diaz’ claim to fame was his shocking 2004 upset of previously unbeaten Juan Carlos Gomez (37-0) via a first-round TKO, as well as Yanqui’s 10-round decision against former world title challenger Vaughn Bean (44-4).
