Sultan Calls Out Peter
TUE May 2 - When Warriors Boxing Promotions learned that number two IBF Heavyweight contender Ray Austin had decided that he would rather wait around and hope for the best than fight unbeaten # 5 contender Sultan Ibragimov for the sanctioning body’s number one mandatory contender’s spot, the IBF was forced to look elsewhere to appoint a worthy challenger.

Next on the IBF’s list will be number six contender and former World Champion John Ruiz, who has until Wednesday to decide whether he will face the heat of Ibragimov. Sultan’s cousin Timor already scheduled to fight number three contender Calvin Brock in June, Ibragimov wants the leading available contender, number four ranked Samuel Peter.

“I will knock out Samuel Peter and then the whole world will know what I already know,” said Ibragimov, 19-0, 16 KOs. “That I am the future Heavyweight Champion and the best in the division.  If Ray Austin won’t fight me, I want the next in line – that’s Samuel Peter.”

Ibragimov’s manager, Boris Grinberg, agrees. “It is time to show that Sultan Ibragimov is the best Heavyweight in the world, and we’re ready for anyone in the division right now.”

The pride of Rostov-na-Donu, Russia, Ibragimov is fresh off the most impressive win of his young career as he stopped Lance Whitaker in the seventh round on December 15th.  It was such an emphatic victory that other Heavyweights are understandably hesitant about facing him.

“I cannot blame fighters like Ray Austin for wanting to take the easier road,” said Ibragimov’s co promoter Sampson Lewkowicz.  “Sultan is a machine in the ring who can’t be stopped, and that’s an intimidating prospect for any fighter to face.”

But despite Austin’s refusal to fight, Warriors Boxing Promotions’ Leon Margules is confident that his fighter will eventually find someone willing to step up to the plate and face Ibragimov.  Hopefully, that someone will be Samuel Peter.

“Warriors is very excited about promoting the next great Heavyweight Sultan Ibragimov,” said Margules, “and a fight between him and Sam Peter would be one of the best Heavyweight fights you will ever see.  Both guys can bang, both come to fight, and the winner will undoubtedly be the true number one Heavyweight contender.  It’s a fight boxing needs.”

Undefeated Cruisers Collide
TUE May 2 - It’s the classic crossroads matchup – two unbeaten fighters zooming to the top finally meet with the winner being allowed to move forward while the loser is forced to regroup.  On May 18, cruiserweights Felix Cora and Vadim Tokarev will put their undefeated records on the line when they face each other in a featured bout on ‘Tribal Pride’ at the Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida.

‘Tribal Pride’, which is headlined by the Interim IBF Lightweight Championship bout between Ricky Quiles (39-6-3, 8 KOs) and Julio Diaz (32-3, 24 KOs), will air live on pay-per-view beginning at 9 pm ET / 6 pm PT.

Also on the card, interim WBA super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero (24-2, 17 KOs) returns to US shores for the first time in a year when he defends his crown against Moises Castro (24-6-1, 14 KOs) in a bout scheduled for 12 rounds, and former K-1 kickboxing superstar Siala "Mighty Mo" Siliga will be making his professional boxing debut in a heavyweight bout.

An outstanding amateur who has duplicated that success in the professional ranks, Galveston, Texas’ Felix ‘Bad News’ Cora (18-0-2, 9 KOs) is knocking on the door of world title shot.  Current owner of the USBA and NABF cruiserweight titles, Cora is coming off a near-shutout ten round decision over hard-hitting Darnell Wilson on March 24th, and when the opportunity came for him to jump back in the ring less than two months later, Cora jumped at the chance.

Vadim Tokarev (21-0-1, 14 KOs) is far from an easy mark though, and at 34, the native of Ekaterinburg, Russia has an urgent desire to get to the top as soon as possible – something that can be made a lot easier if he can pin the first loss on Cora’s record.  A veteran of almost six years in the pro ring, Tokarev has held the Russian and IBF Intercontinental cruiserweight titles, and he holds wins over the aforementioned Wilson, Michael Simms, and former world champion Arthur Williams.  This will be his first fight in the United States.

Tickets for Tribal Pride are priced at $25, $50, $100, and $150.  They are available at The Hard Rock Live Box Office at The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.  Doors open at 6:30PM, the first bell rings at 7:30PM.

Garcia/Rivera Workout Quotes
TUE May 2 - The 20th anniversary celebration of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING continues with a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLEHEADER on Saturday, May 6, on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast). In one of the 12-round world title fights, Alejandro Terra Garcia (25-1, 23 KOs) defends his World Boxing Association super welterweight belt against local favorite and former world welterweight champion Jose Antonio Rivera (37-4-1, 24 KOs). In the first half of a twinbill promoted by Don King Productions at the DCU Center at Worcester, Mass., talented, exciting southpaw Luis El Demoleder Perez (23-1, 15 KOs) defends his International Boxing Federation junior bantamweight belt against mandatory challenger and No. 1 contender Dimitri The Baby Kirillov (28-2, 10 KOs).

ALEJANDRO TERRA GARCIA

I have had a great camp. I am ready. I can’t wait to fight. I wish it was Saturday now.

I am a low-key person. I feel I can get along with anybody. Rivera seems like a nice guy and we have been friendly. But that all changes once the bell rings and the fight begins.

He wants want I have and I know he will try very hard to get it. But he is not going to get my belt. I like being champion.

I keep getting asked about the crowd, and how fighting in his backyard will affect me. It is good for Rivera that he has a lot of fans, but it will be just me and him in the ring.

JOSE ANTONIO RIVERA

I know there are going to be a lot of my fans at the fight, but I hope those that aren’t tune it and watch (on SHOWTIME) because this is going to be the best 154-pound world title fight of the night.

There is no way this fight cannot be a war. We both come forward. We are both coming to win.

What is a little weird for me is that my main concern going into the fight is that I don’t have any concerns. There is nothing that I could have done better. I am totally prepared and very confident that I will go in and do my job.
