Peter/Toney 2 - 'Redemption' Press Quotes
TUE December 5 - At Tuesday’s press conference formally announcing Peter vs. Toney 2, promoter Don King and Ken Hershman, Showtime Networks senior vice president of Sports Programming, announced the addition of Rivera vs. Simms to the Jan. 6, 2007 edition of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING. The world title doubleheader will air live at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) and is being promoted by Duva Boxing, Goossen Tutor Promotions, Warriors Boxing Promotions, and Don King Productions.
The always exciting Jose Antonio Rivera (38-4-1, 24 KOs) will make the first defense of his WBA super welterweight title against undefeated, WBA champion "in recess" Travis Simms (24-0, 18 KOs). Rivera won the title in spectacular fashion May 6, 2006, on SHOWTIME, dropping Alejandro "Terra” Garcia four times en route to winning a lopsided decision. Simms, who knocked out Garcia to win the WBA 154-pound belt, will be making his first start since October 2004 when he defeated Bronco McKart.
The main event features the hottest young heavyweight in the world, Samuel “The Nigerian Nightmare” Peter, and one of the craftiest pugilists in history, James “Lights Out” Toney, fighting a WBC-ordered rematch at Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

AMAZING LACY WINS WITH SEVERE SHOULDER INJURY
TUE December 5 - At the highest levels of the sport, winning any fight against a fellow contender is a tough proposition. Doing it with a torn rotator cuff is nearly impossible. But that’s just what former world super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy did on Saturday night as he pounded out a ten round decision victory over Vitali Tyspko at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida.
It was revealed today that Lacy suffered a severe tear of the rotator cuff in his left shoulder in the second round of the ten round HBO World Championship Boxing co-feature, and that he will have to undergo surgery that will take him out of action for anywhere from six months to a year.
Given that Lacy’s nickname is ‘Left Hook’ in honor of his most potent punch makes the fact that he went eight fast-paced rounds with the injury an even more astounding accomplishment.
“I can’t imagine the amount of pain Jeff went through in that fight and the fact that he finished the bout and won it is a testament to his championship heart,” said Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions, the event’s promoter. “We all get bumps and bruises in the ring, but to fight with an injury of that severity is nothing short of amazing. A fighter like Jeff is welcome on a Golden Boy Promotions show anytime.”
Dr Richard Goldberger, Lacy's orthopedic surgeon, described the injury as a sub-scapular rotator cuff tear. According to Dr. Goldberger, this type of tear would cause significant pain. " I am surprised that Jeff was able to continue the fight. The pain had to be severe. His courage is amazing"
Lacy, a 2000 United States Olympian and former IBF world super middleweight champion, returned to the ring for the first time since losing his title to Joe Calzaghe in March by defeating Tyspko via scores of 96-94, 96-94, and 95-95.
